A Splash of Color

So, you've seen the two golden ticket acros and the monti i got from Deer Park. None of those were on my ' i really need a bright eye catching pop in the far back left of the reef as it's dark and drab ' list but there was a nice all fluoro lime hand sized aculeus branch in the shipment and that was perfect for the job imo.
Mark had bagged the other three pieces for me and when i asked him to bag the aculeus branch that i must admit looked cruddy compared to all the other crazy colored stuff around it he was like ' really, it's just a fluoro like we get in all the time '

' I have a spot it will be perfect for mate, bag it please. And then i want you to pick me out one more, i want a real stunner. '

The fluoro bit is on the left and the thing circled that looks like a dog compared to everything else is the piece that Mark picked out. I had written that drab greyish kinda mauve colored thing off as a total loser and hadn't even bothered to give it a top down look.

' Remember how the really cool reds always ship badly, i reckon this is one of those '.

' I dunno Mark, looks like a dog to me mate '

' it has red polyps '

' Bag it for me mate '

I would never have taken this home but for Mark calling it as a possible all red stunner. It's already lighting up with pigment and i think Mark might have picked me out another cherry blossom colored acro similar to the red one Dave had to give me for free as i refused to buy it lol.

Thanks Mark

Since i have the day off i was going to surprise Dave with some frags today but the acro ute isn't available to get me to the bloody shop ! :hammer:

There will be no fireworks under anyone's reef Xmas tree unfortunately......... :(

Andrew, where in the FTS is Marks "Red Summer" Coral. I see the Flouro in the back corner.
Also it amazes me how much better you get along with Mark than you do with Dave. For a guy who is as easy going as you, its amazing how quickly Dave can set you off.

Marty

I've been thinkin' I'll give you $10 a frag, you cover overnight shipping to Cali. My new tank is half empty still!

Here's where I was at before I started placing the frags. Don't mind the flubber, they were all free and unloved so I took 'em lol

It's tough to say that you picked the pick of the litter when the litter looks like this...

I think you managed to get the right pieces though! Uploading the rest of the pics on my journal as we speak so I don't spam you too much ;) Would hate to set you again like we did with the Voucher :lolspin:

I was trying to tone the colors down a bit so the guys didn't spew at me.

You ruined that Dom......... ruined it..........

yes that's the finger because you deserve it for posting us a dulled down pic
And here's another one For bloodily well posting the better pic.
That is a stunning display and I could empty the bank balance in that shop.
Christian needs to sort some of those out for us over here in Blighty . We would keep them in the back room of a Lfs and have a secret biggles password lol .

Beautiful fts, Andrew a cornucopia of wondrous delights.
That pastel rainbow shortcake really hurts.
I counted at least 7 branches on the frag you cut and glued to a rock..
Around here, that's somewhere between $700-$1500 worth of coral. Maybe more if it fell into some of the serious marketers hands.
Cant wait to see it in a couple months.

I can't believe my eyes everytime I look at your thread. The quality and quantity of acros available to you is amazing. I hate the small measly frags we get over here state side. I guess everything is really opposite down and over there. Have a great day man and keep taking the pictures? Have your demands really started to take off with the aquaforest products yet?

Nice FTS Biggles - So organised.

Thanks mate, looks very contrived imo.

Marty

It's at the left base of the stag on the second island, just behind a blue piece mate.
I don't get along better with Mark or Dave lol, we all get along like good mates Marty :)

Hooley dooley mate, that's a good collection of frags to get the ball rolling on your new reef. I never charge for frags so YOU cover the shipping with the saved cash...........:p

I know right...... bloody Dom !

Christian would have the mother colony of that pink piece now growing out in the Sustainable Reefs facility and i know he ships to Europe.......

Let's see if it color morphs as many wild shortcake variants often do - it's never a good color shift when it happens. If i lose the yellow highlights it's all over rover......... :fun2:
I made three 3/4" frags for Dom, Ken and John and two RTN'd last night out of the blue and the last one is looking ready to join them. Now i'm paranoid as hell about the piece i showed you and the other bit under the left radium......

I stopped everything about a month back mate, i have the skimmer in the sump, no carbon or anything else. I dose basic Randy's recipe and no water changes for about 6-7 weeks. I'm just letting everything settle with the least disruption for a few months and then i'll do some water changes and see if i notice any positive effects in relation to growth and or pigments.
I am very lucky to have access to the cool acros i show you guys, it's quite amazing to stand over such a shipment and imagine what the reef looked like that the pieces were collected from.

A pigment saturation comparison shot. The new bit isn't that pale but if i make it correct you guys will think the firetruck looks too saturated........ point is, it shows you a very big difference.

Do you know who Christian supplys in the uk pal if I can find that out I'd put the thumb screws on the owner to get more hits in .

Hey Andrew,
Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your reefing adventures with me/us this year! it has been great fun reading your threads for yet another year. Have a happy, healthy and safe holiday season!! P.S. the snowman is great.

Andrew your colours ,despite your problems, remain brilliant! As far your slow growth, did you ever consider as a reason, the very strong light? Listening Dana's Riddle talk, at Macna 2016, yours excellent colours with slow growth, came in my mind....

Yes, for sure the Brits made a big mistake sending some of us to Australia as punishment. :headwallblue: Of all places...send them to probably one of the nicest place on earth...what sillyness!

Those acros look so nice all one can do is dream about a tenth of that ever reaching the shores of rainy Britain.

Having said that...Sustainable reefs are sneaking a few frags to this gloomy place and a few may have made their way into my tank :spin2:
