A take on BB methodology.

I'm assuming nothing.

How accurate are those readings? Can you think of any other reason you would get those readings?

If you vacuum 25% of your sand bed, all the way down to the plenum, each month - How do you maintain a mature sand bed?

My sand is never clumpy. If you don't think i remove bacteria i will send you a sample to look at under a microscope and then tell me no bacteria are removed!

Well I got to make money some how!?!? lol.
Yea I cant figure out how to get rid of that, but what I do is to hold down the left mouse button and then click the right one..kinda micky mouse but it works, lol

here is a couple of pics of my ugly brown coral riddened tank, I got to figure out how to get that stuff off my biodiverse rock:confused:

But Mike, aren't your corals starving from lack of bio-diversity?
LOL

For anyone that doesn't know. Mike's tank is a L and wraps around two walls.

It's gorgeous!

I am afraid so my friend, my tank has seemed to turn into a barren sterile waste land that looks hidious. I never knew aquarium composting was so important?? my bad

vcoo1 you have some colorful acros in your tank nice work..looks like some colorful acros which is what all the sps keepers reely want...
My wife likes golden jewlery not corals!!!

that was then this is now and i DO i repete DO blame it on an old sand bed
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=548157&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

some look better then ever while some still are slow to recover....nothing god happens quick in a reeftank!
thank you Bomber for all you have helped with!

bluebentgrass,

Can you just answer Bomber's questions, so the rest of us can learn something! That is what this thread is all about.

No he was obviously trolling and trying to look smart. Answering questions would blow all that for him.

What question? How do i keep a mature sand bed? What are you too assuming i vaccum out every single bacteria when i vaccum 25%. Hell no!! it repopulates very quickly lets say quick enough for me to never detect nitrate or phosphate.

How accurate are the probes ask pinpoint. Point is the probe changes potential throut the day as o2 is consumed and released from the bed.

Show my bed is anoxic not anerobic

bluebentgrass,

This question, for example from Bomber:

How accurate are those probes? Can you think of any other reason you would get those readings?

If you vacuum 25% of your sand bed, all the way down to the plenum, each month - How do you maintain a mature sand bed?

Answering those would be nice.

How do i maintain a mature sand bed? I dont vaccum out every single bacteria when i vaccum. That would be physically impossible. Wouldn't you agree? But its not a brand new naked bed. It is seed heavely and the bacteria expand to repopulate the bed. This is obvious as i never can detect with salifert nitrate or phosphate.

How accurate are the probes? Does it matter if the probe reads -400 and it is really -395? The bed changes potential almost 400 milivolts from day to night. I assume the bed is actively reducing during the daylight hours. hence the -400 redox reading.

So far what I got from you is .

You have a pile of fish poo on the bottom of your tank . You stick a probe in it to keep its tempature . You change the kitty litter once a month . All of this so you can have the same nitrite count as me !

Hmmmm ! I don't have to worry about how old my fish poo is , I find no need to keep it in my tank .;)

You brag about your amazing colors , Either you stink with the camera , have crappy lighting or your colors are all in your head .

Thank you no , you can't tell me your way is easier.

Good luck with the over sized kitty litter box .:D

And you failed at dsb and are giving advice? What do you know about chenistry or microbiology
- bluebentgrass

I guess we don't know as much about "chenistry" as you do.

SeanT take your thread back... I'm twisting your arm.

Oh and by the way...

bluebentgrass: I don't know what your trying to prove, I don't think anyone does. Your acting like someone is bashing sand, while you constantly sit here and post (in a bare-bottom thread). Usually a few times in a row. We're glad that sand worked for you, but have a seat... take a rest for a minute, maybe start your own thread. Go ahead and learn something new rather than trying to make fun of something when it sounds like your just reading from a text book.

Guys this really has gotten out of control.
No need to bash someone who says they operate a succesful DSB, SPS tank...even if they don't understand the mechanics etc. etc.

We know it can be done, many are doing it.

We know the problems with DSB's, just as there are potential problems with BB's if proper husbandry is not maintained.

Let's not turn this into another one of thsoe threads. :(

Re: A take on BB methodology.

But Sean, It started out that way. ;)

Just for fun did anyone notice how Eric contradicted himself? hummmmm??

There's just smarter and easier ways, and it depends on what you want to do, what you like, etc. Me persionally - and you did ask, btw - I'd never run another bare bottomed reef in my life. I thought they looked hideous.

Now perosnally, I like my BB tank.
I don't find it "sterile" by any means and I most certainly do not find it unstable.

Any other input, thoughts or opinions?
