A take on BB methodology.

wastedmemphis
post some pics of your acros.
Does anyone have a picture of a sarmentosa 1 foot by 10 inches?
How about a samoensis 10 inches acros by 7 inches tall?
or a milli pora 10 inches by 10 inches?
I want to see grown corals in a bb tank not frags!!!!

Transferring from my 55 gallon BB to my 75 gallon BB...... fragged up the colony to 3/4 size to make it fit in its new home.

Your acting like someone is bashing sand, while you constantly sit here and post (in a bare-bottom thread). Usually a few times in a row.
Many of the BB advocates (who are posting in this thread also) post in the sand threads (some which were started this week) explaining why DSBs or SSBs don't work. Why shouldn't other advocates have the opportunity to explain to us why they believe their substrate works?

I've heard many times how the DSB people use to bash anyone who suggested anything else other than DSB. Maybe all this bashing was before my time, I've only been following this website for a year (and the SPS forum less) but all I've seen (especially in this forum) is how BB's work and DSB's don't.

Its refreshing to see other knowledgable people debate the other side so it isn't one sided. Many people didn't see problems for months/years with their DSB's, are you sure the same thing won't happen with BB's? Several people have stated they are having problems with their BB's already (maybe its their husbandry not the substrate, maybe the same with sand??). Cooking your rock seems to be important regardless of your substrate but many are only doing it when they change over to BB.

All I know is JBNY's tank is awesome, so DSB's can work.
All I know is Mojo's tank is awesome (and has been around even longer than Bomber's), so BB's can work. But making them work is a different story.

If vacuuming is the key to having sand then let the knowledgable people debate so I can make my sand work with SPS. Bluebentgrass is curt and so is Bomber. I have severly disagreed with bluebentgrass (in a lighting thread) and argued with him about it but I would like to hear what he has to say about how to make a sand bed work.

Kimoyo, It's not that I personally disagree with bluebentgrass, it's just that he seems to post like he's 12 years old trying to prove something. I myself would like to learn a little more about the inner workings of DSB or SSB's more, but it's just the way it's said... It's the whole "I'm better than thou" mentality. If we can sit down and have an INTELLIGENT conversation, I believe there will be much to learn about the two different techniques of achieving the same goals. I'm really getting sick and tired of reading comments thrown around on this thread, I thought i graduated High School 10 years ago..... and to think, I joined ReefCentral to learn  sheeeesh

Merv you stinker , you've been holding out on me !

Is that you and your better half in the avitar ?:eek2: Lucky Man !

I've already said that there is more then one way to skin a cat , then get insulted by a man that can't prove himself. If I'm wrong which happens all to often , I'll eat it like a man , but he can't do that .

My preference is still BB .:D It will be until my tank crashes .:blown:

The issue is not a work / doesn't work thing really, it's more how they work. Here is a good summary from Bomber:

If you use a DSB, you should know what it does.
If you use a SSB, you should know what it does.
If you go BB, you should know what it does.

There's just not much to point out about BB systems. Either you keep them clean or you have problems. It's that simple. But you can SEE if a BB system is clean just by looking - no surprises.

So it's about the truth of how they work. If you have an true understanding of what they are doing, then you in a good position to decide between different methods, based on the amount of time you want to put into your tank, the risks you are prepared to take, etc.
