? about feeding frozen foods to my pair

so I usually feed spectrum pellet and frozen rods. My question is I usually don't defrost my frozen food very well. I usually break a mouth size piece off and place it in the tank. My large female occy will swallow the whole thing while it is still cold if not frozen. Do you see any issues with this? I know it probably isn't good but she's been doing it for months and no issues.

Just thought I would ask

Mine used to get chunks of cold food too when I got lazy. I figure it will defrost in her stomach, right? I usually just was more concerned with her carrying it to her nem, and nobody else got food. It only takes 10 seconds or so to thaw if you hold it in the water with your fingers and rub on it a bit.

Not a lot of personal experience as of yet, but FWIW, our local club had Anthony Calfo come in and do a talk at our last meeting and one the things he mentioned was that when you feed frozen food, it is a good thing to thaw it slowly and rinse it before putting it in the tank. The pack juice in most prepared frozen foods is not beneficial to the tank and isn't consumed by anything but your skimmer.

Also, just my own personal opinion, I wouldn't want to swallow a frozen TV dinner whole every day....

I just put the frozen stuff in a fish net and blast it with warm water in the sink until it is thawed. I have added it still frozen in the past with no ill effects. The only reason I see for thawing first is to extract the juice so it is not adding to your bioload.

When feeding mysis, gel-pack cubes or frozen plankton I always thaw with some tank water to get the excess juice. Since I won't feed this entire portion, I refreeze with enough tank water to cover the food. When feeding the next portion from this, I use enough water to thaw only enough to feed at that feeding. I know many will ding me for freezing and refreezing, but it's worked for me and really only enough to feed the tank is thawed the final time.

So to answer th question, all my frozen feeds are thawed before entering the tank.

I only feed rods frozen for frozen foods and his juice isn't as bad or as much as others I've used. my pair is very aggressive and when I hold it there they will bite my fingers, my female has actually jumped out of the water to nip me. just thought I would share that
