Acclimation Box

Can you please let us know how the acclimation box works? Pros? Cons? etc? And post pics of the fish inside the box? thanks.

Daniel, I had Tyler make me a custom box on Bradley's suggestion. It is fabulous. It is a little different than the box that prop-frags received. His is a little more elaborate with the swirly lines, and the engraved company name. The hook to hang over the tank is a bit different as well. There is only one drawback for me. The hook on mine to hang it on the rimless tank is very heavy duty (a good thing), adjustable (a great thing), and thick in the design (a bit of an issue) so as the box hangs in the tank my screen to keep my fish from jumping has to be open for about an inch or so along that side of the tank. You know wrasses, they are amazing at finding those little openings. Nothing has happened so far and I have used it 5 times since receiving it. I don't think there is anything different Tyler can do but possibly make the part that hooks over the tank edge a bit smaller profile so the screen can sit more properly and snug. This is such a great piece of workmanship. It is seriously heavy duty and will last forever. It is the best thing I have purchased in the last few years. Tyler was super easy to work with and, like I said, the workmanship is awesome.

I purchased a small square 5g. Tupperwear tub that fits the box perfectly and I put the fish with their bag water directly in the box sitting in the Tupperwear box and I slowly drip water into it from my tank, I swap out the water throughout the acclimation process and eventually I just pick up the acclimation box out of the Tupperwear box, drain the water to the last drain lines and place in the tank. I never have to net the fish or anything. No muss, no fuss and very easy on the fish :). I'll have to shoot some pictures of that process next time I use it.

The first picture is of the box hanging in the tank without fish, I hadn't put the fish in it yet. I keep a piece of live rock in the box with a 45 L piece of PVC for hiding purposes. The picture below that is of two fish hanging out in it. The lid opens so you can easily feed the fish.

less than $10 at Petco...drill some add'l holes in it, for more cross-flow, throw in some PVC pipe for fish to 'hide' in... works PERFECT!

For anyone using this approach, if you have access to a right angle drill (or right angle attachment that fits a standard drill), you can drill from the inside out and save some of the effort of smoothing the edges with the dremel.

Also, if you can find a short enough Forstner bit, you will have a smoother hole.

I'm wondering if something like this can be fitted to euro-braced tank? Slojmn - what customizations did you have Tyler make?

Just get in touch with Tyler and he can make it any way you want.

Mine isn't made by Tyler, but he came to my house about a year ago when he custom made me a kalk reactor and basically designed his boxes after mine, but better IMO.

Received my custom acclimation box from Elite Aquatics earlier this week. They do great work and I'm glad I ordered from them. It was designed to fit the eurobrace on my acrylic tank and I requested the door slide open on the top of the box so I could easily feed inside the tank.

I always wondered how the euro braced ones looked, I may have to steal that from you Ed.haha

nice box...

Thanks, I've very impressed by the build quality and the practicality of the euro-braced design. I ordered the eurobrace separator larger than my tank and I'm glad it did because I can easily slide the box a little out if I need to access it or clean the front acrylic.

Brett, you are welcome to borrow it for a few days if I'm not using it. At the moment I have 7 fish in 3 different QT tanks so you will not be allowed to hog it (I've seen all the fish in your QT systems) :)

Haha, I have one of the old 4coral ones, I hate the suction cups but they work with my screen top well.
