Acclimation for online orders

So I ordered a regal angelfish online recently, and it's supposed to come this Tuesday. The thing is I'm not sure how to acclimate it. I've done some research and they are definitely very sensitive fish, and I don't want to stress it through improper acclimation. That would make me lean towards drip acclimation. However I have also know that when fish are shipped the ammonia they produce becomes ammonium due to the lower ph, and drip acclimating them will cause it to turn back to ammonia, which would be lethal. So that would make me want to float to temp equalize, remove a cup of water, add a cup of water, wait 10 mins, and do it one more time. This way the ammonia shouldn't be able to get to toxic levels. Is this the right way to go about acclimating my new Regal?

Put a bit of prime of other ammonia removing water conditioner in the bag to get rid of the ammonia that formed during the shipping process

Best way to acclimate livestock purchased online is to match the QT salinity to that of the transport bag. Then, simply temperature acclimate for 30 minutes (with the bag still sealed) and transfer the fish into the QT. I've never lost a fish to acclimation using this method.

This.

Temperature acclimation worked pretty well for me so far but I have only ordered online three times so my experience is limited.

same here. i've only lost one fish but it had sat on somebody else's front porch for 6 hours in the august sun before i finally tracked it down so the fish was pretty much doa anyway.

this is exactly what i do.

i use insulin syringes to sample the bag water without having to open it, then adjust my QT salinity, float for temp acclimation, then cut 'em loose.

I do this too. Keep the bag seal is important, and discarded most of the water it come with.

Thanks for the info. I have the same fish coming tomorrow too...Can't wait. Second time will hopefully be a charm!

Well I used some prime and then dripped the regal. It looks like it's doing pretty good so far. It's actually swimming around a little and picking at the rocks, but whenever it sees me, it hides. I hope I can get it eating some clams tomorrow.

Yep, best practice, hands down. Only works with QT, and I don't think the OP is doing that.

You are correct, I am not quarantining it. I thought that with a fish like this it would be best to get it in the dt asap so it can pick at the rocks and possibly eat some of the microfauna in the tank, and most of all so it can feel secure. On another note, it did start eating littleneck clams on the half shell today.

Regals aren't that delicate. Mines finish ttm ready for quarantine observation. I would never throw a fish directly into my display without proper quarantine.
