Achilles Tang not fattening up

Purchased a juvenile Achilles from Divers Den about 6months ago and has always eaten Nori like a hog! Downside is she does not seem to be getting any fatter. The belly is enlarged but does not seem to be spreading to the rest of the body.Very active and is growing in circumference. All my other fish are seriously needing a diet with all my attempts :)

Nori is placed on a clip twice a day and cut up into my other fishes mixture for an evening feeding. That mixture includes shrimp(multiple types), squid, bloodworms and pellets, none which she is interested in :(

Thoughts/opinions?

TIA

So the Tang will only eat Nori? You might want to try something different like Rogger's Reef Food or Larry's Reef Frenzy. If you can get them, Live California Black worms might work too. My Tang doesn't like them, but my other fish go insane when I throw them in the tank.

Try soaking the nori in selcon to increase its nutritional value. You can also try folding mysis/pellets up in nori to disguise them, the idea is that your AT will accidentally eat some while grazing and learn that they taste good. Both of my achilles LOVE the NLS pellets, which are very high in protein and aid in weight gain.

What kind of nori are you using? Was this fish quarantined?

Yaki Sushi Nori (ASSI Brand) (Roasted). 100pk expires 2/2015
Have tried the NLS pellets , but not rolled into the Nori.
QT'd for just over 5 weeks to verify eating and healthy, but no chemicals/meds were added.

Great that she is picking at the rocks. Soaking the nori with selcon is a great idea. She might like live food. Try brine shrimp. If she eats it put some roggers or any other food suggested by others the next time you feed the live brine. She may take a bite of it and like it. You can try your food but chances are she already ate it off the rocks and didn't really like it.

that's exactly what happened to mine, same eating habits & it withered away, unfortunately. Bob Fenner seemed to think it was something to do with it being genetically "impaired" ... got mine from LA ... sorry to hear about it, maybe try & make it stress free as possible.

^ UGH!!!!!
$200 kick in the bleep bleep!! but hoping not.
Just ordered up some Rogers Reef Food, working on the others.

does it look like this?

what I would do, is to take a piece of nori, and put some mysis on it, let it dry a bit, then fold and place in the clip.

he will get used to the taste of mysis that way.

hmm some sort of worm or somethng ? whats wrong with that fish ?

My Achilles that had the same (at least I think) symptoms that the OP stated. Mine did eat everything though - Rods, Mysis, nori, etc ... Not sure if it was worms or what. Sadly, he didn't last more than 9 months.

yea the pic looks like he has eaten well, but loosing weight ... most probably some internal parasites or something. sorry to hear !

My achilles didn't eat anything but nori for over the first year. I just gave him all the nori he could eat and soaked it in selcon once a day. I've had him for almost 2 years now and he just finally started eating NLS pellets. It took a couple months, but when he was eating just the nori he plumped up like a pig (you can look under the achilles primer thread to see pic of how wide he is ;-) Just keep feeding as much as you can and add selcon if possible.

+1

And I would switch to TLF or Ocean Nutrition nori (I prefer TLF, easier to find in bulk and doesn't have the garlic additives). It is much thicker than the stuff made for sushi, and is supplemented with vitamins for fish.

I agree with Rea17, i've always fed the TLF nori.
