achilles tang

Thanks Philly,

The powder blue is fairly new after qt I added him to my new dt, then waited 1 day and then added the Achilles. I made sure to add them close together but I wanted to add the powder blue first as he was coming from qt, whereas my Achilles was coming from my now sump but the 2 tanks have been plumbed together for a few months.

These 2 fish additions are the ones that have scared me the most, although nock on wood there has been 0 aggression towards each other. I don't want to get to head of my self as it has only been 6 days.

Its funny the fish I had trouble with were my yellow and purple tang going after each other. They had been together since March with zero aggression but after adding the last fish additions the yellow tang did not leave my purple alone for 2 full days. After 2 days they are much better but still do not like each other.

Hi Holsteiner, it is true I also have found it to be rare to find people that have kept Achilles tangs longer than a year or 2.

We give our Achilles almost unlimited nori during the day since I'm at home frequently. But he's also about 4" thick ;-) That's great that you've had him 6 years, I keep posting pics of mine and trying to find people that have maintained them over the years but not many people respond. You're also fortunate he gets along with the powder blue, we added ours at 4" to our tank with an already established purple tang. After that there was to be no more fish added...the Achilles will kill anything you try to add. So this tank remains just the purple and him along with an old clownfish.

Well this one is for you Holsteiner ;) I never post pictures of my achilles because he's so darn frustrating to take a picture of! I think my phone has a hard time focusing quickly because of his color and the fact that he never stops moving doesn't help. Here's a horrible iPhone pic, he's about 8-9" now:

To the OP, I keep mine with a powder blue and a powder blue hybrid. *Lately* he's been more aggressive with the powder blue, but only around feeding time and it isn't serious. They've been together for a year now, I've had the achilles for about two.

That's a big *** Achilles!

I remember seeing full grown adults at a wholesaler once. Holy moly they get big!

Wow!!!! That's awesome thanks for posting ;-) He actually makes my 7 1/2" look small!

holsteiner, your guy is beautiful also.

I think if I would be able to just have one fish an Achilles would be my choice.
