Acronics sps Peninsula

Sorry to hear about the back issues. Definitely makes it difficult to work on any kind of reef tank.

You for sure need to get some more surface area going on those strainers.
Can you just throttle back the flow for now? Just so you don't lose all your fish. It's not like you need it for your corals right now anyway....?:)

I have the pump throttled back as much as I dare go. Honestly, I want to turn it off but I dont want the water in the pipes to go stagnant. Im searching online for strainers but nothing I like so far. Might be another DIY :)

Thanks Darryl, Looks like this train will make a few stops before I reach SPSville

Even if you turned it on for a few minutes a day it would probably be fine.

Check out a "Spears foot valve screen"

Do a google search check it out. They come in all sizes. Not cheap but they are really nice. Grey PVC. Might be sticking out to far in your tank for your taste but your could easily modify it. Especially if you got a larger size one.
:)

well it looks as though the bryopsis has withstood the kent treatment, bummer. Ive done a bit more research and discovered I have Bryopsis Penata wich according to some others is resistant to the treatment, wish I knew that before dropping ~$100 on Kent products. However I found a couple success storys using hypersalinity and suddenly a light bulb went off! My first tank, a 75 gallon, had the same algae bloom in its infancy. I was a noob then and didnt know the type of algae it was, untill now. I bought a sea hare for that tank and after a couple weeks the algae was %100 gone. I sold that sea hare to a man who e-mailed me the day after he bought it saying "Hey, FYI your salinity is at 1.030" (I use to calibrate my refracto with RODI water) I just put two and two together. It explaines where the bryopsis came from, I use rock from that setup in my current tank, and potentially how to rid the tank of this beast. SO, I have added to my arsenal and went out and picked up new bulbs for my T5, a sea hare, purple sea urchin, foxface rabbit fish (my heart is racing cuz after I put it in my tank, one of his eyes got cloudy and looks like a few ich spots), 10 varrious hermits and 10 trochus snails. The closed loop is now shut down for the sea hare and because last night I lost 2 more longspine cardinals. One to the CL and one got into my sump and sucked into my skimmer ARGH! Im praying that this works as im getting fed up with this vial plague. If this doesnt work its a toss up between starting over or Algae fix ect... Fingers crossed!

It pays to take photos! Just combed over the old pics and found one with the Bryopsis. Confirmed same algae.

got the new strainers finnished. This time I used 4" PVC end caps and drilled bigger holes and more of them. Here is a photo with a king can for size referance.

Youre a whiner, oh my back, oh I cant do this cant do that! lol J/K I am on my way to fusion surgery at the end of the month. Been on this horrible train ride since 08', ready for it to be over. I wish you well in that respect!

As to your tank, its a heck of a system, too bad you are going through so many problems. I had byropsis when I started up my new tank too. Kent and time took care of it though. Thank God. Looking forward to more updates! Can I ask how long you spent drillin all those holes? lol

Hey I have a 40 qt tank for corals and had many species of algae. some types of bryopsis hair algae, turf, lettuce a lot of maricultured frag plugs and they have all sorts of algae on them and I purchased one of these http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+530+590&pcatid=590 and that thing has eaten everything off the walls the bottom the frag plugs everything and has not touched one coral maybe worth a shot. I have had a bryopsis problem in one of my old tanks that I let a friend have and he called me the other day and told me he purchased one of these guys http://www.reefhotspot.com/shop/fis...ini-tang-3-5-in-ctenochaetus-tominiensis.html saw it picking at the bryopsis it was bad so he went in and took out all the big stuff he had in there and few days later all gone I fought the stuff for over a year and these two creatures are the only thing that I have seen stand in its way. I have tried lights out, for two weeks ive tried the tech m and I have tried salinity and different ph but nothing. This is my experience.
regards,
Danny

Whoa fusion surgery! that sounds like it would be the end of my 30 inch deep tank for sure. I feel your pain. I have had back problems since i was a young teen. Ill send my good vibs your way come the end of the month. And FYI it took me 4 hours to complete these screens! LOL its not like I had three weeks off work to do this or nothing.

dantdodge; Thanks for the tips. Ive tried two urchins in the last week and both died after acclimation. My dosing pump was out of commision and my alk dipped WAYYY low, like 4dkH low. Im doing hypersalinity and my SG is at 1.0278ish and i seem to have the upper-hand for once :bounce3:

just so im not breaking any rules or anything

This is beta 1, a green millepora with a red trapizia crab!

Looking much better. I have serviced tanks with that algae problem and fought it for several months with little luck in ridding the tank, only reducing. I know how much of a pain it is to deal with. Love you fish room and equipment set up. I wish I could have 5-10g tanks for 3 part dosing.

Hey Kev,
How is the Millie liking being so low in the tank? Mine always did much better up high in strong flow.
