What!? Stop. This hurts my eyes.
Seriously, wow. Kevin that is gorgeous.
Thank you
Seriously dude...you are gifted with the ability to pull some crazy colours out of those SPS...:smokin:
I see a future heavyweight TOTM contender...
Whats the PO4 and NO3 levels in that tank?
Thanks, Ive been a bad boy and honestly have not tested those two params even once on this system.... Livin on the edge! I will test soon and let you know.
yeah.... agreed, sahin..
Kevin, the photos on this thread are from another world.. they have to be some of the best acro shots i have ever seen.. anywhere.
question..
clearly you are a fauna marin disciple. how long have you been using the products?
I've just started trying the coral vitality and i have found that my corals are looking a little healthier and the pe for several hours after adding it, is really nice.
are you using the products as per fauna marin's guidelines? i see you are not using the coral vitality quite as frequently as they recommend but what about the colour elements?
I ask because I'm sure you've heard the old adage, 'don't add to your tank what you can't test for' but I'd like to try the colour elements even though they contain many elements that cannot be tested for..
also...Im curious about the ultra power phos.. how do you suppose they have created a product that stops absorbing po4 when the level reaches .04?? sounds a little far fetched to me... I've never looked at it, is it some modified gfo?
I can't wait to see all of these nutso acros growing like crazy in your new tank..
Thanks buddy. Been using over a year now. I feel that Vitality is very potent and should be used with respect. IMO it accelerates the uptake of available elements extremely effectively. I use to dose the full dose of colour elements split up in daily doses but have backed off a bit on all additions (except trace elements in 2 part) since implementing vitality.
I am familiar with the old saying. Heres a stick for your spokes, salt mix is jam packed with elements we cannot test for, yet we add it to our tanks all the time
As for phos 0.04, I received a PM today inquiring about it, I will cut/paste my response here;
phos 0.04 was designed for use with bio pellets. It keeps phos at detectable levels so as not to throw off the stoichiometric ratios between carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorous and starve the bacteria that you work so hard to grow on your polyhydroxyalkanoates pellets. Basically, it takes 106 atoms of carbon to process 16 atoms of nitrogen to process 1 atom of phosphorous.
As for the method. I'm not 100% sure. There are little grey/white pellets in the media. My assumption is that these "pellets" are soaked in a solution of 0.04ppm phosphorous and slowly release the phosphorous back into the water. So there are two separate processes happening simultaneously. I may be way of base with that assumption but its my best guess. Ill ask Claude and see what he has to say.
That's a bloody nice green acro mate, i love the contrast between the pale branches and the green corallite lips.
I recently had the opportunity to visit Kevin's place and watch he and Matt at work on their fauna marin dosing.......... considering you two are using it and you both keep beautiful acros i'm going to do some :reading: on this stuff.
For those who haven't met them, that's Kevin adding the green food coloring (color elements) while Matt monitors the acro in that last pic soaking in the 'fauna marin dip'
The reef adage 'don't add to your tank what you can't test for' doesn't apply to SPS tanks Matt, in fact it's our duty as SPS keepers to 'speriment'
LOL killin me buddy.
Thats was actually a green #7 emulsion with a sprinkle of koala pixi dust.
Banana... lol! When I was reading the list I, like others, figured it was a joke! How do you add it? Finely chopped? Sliced? Pureed?
Great looking tank BTW. Great is an understatement, actually. I've been a silent follower for quite some time.
Good God I can not stop staring at that abro!!!
Thanks, Thinly sliced
Dead rock? Or was it live rock from the start?
The branch rock was dead when I first bought it years ago but it is "live" now. The rest is live rock. Mainly Tonga (P04 city! but good life forms), Fiji and Indo.
That abro is beautiful, how long have you had it? They always look beautiful at first for me, then slowly loose the stunning colors. The pink with green polyped one i have took a few (3 or 4) months to change or loose color.
Great pics, looking forward to updates! Hurry up!
Ive had it for about 3.5 months now so time will tell. Thank you, I also have a sweet humilis im colouring up as well as a rainbow digitafera that is kinda blah right now. I know you like the knubbies
WOW! Super cool scape! Love it! Please do a video showing the rockscape...start at the front and walk around to the side etc. That will really show the depth etc.
How much are you charging for a tank tour?
Thanks man, ya I will absolutely post an epic video! Mattera fact, I already have the footage edited and mastered... who knows I might pull a sahin and just not post it though ;P
Fantastic, Kevin!
Looks amazing.
Talk about insta reef!
Thanks guys
Where did you get that branching rock? It looks so cool.
From a LFS in Ottawa. Thanks.
Wow,great job there kevin!
For an "unknown":lmao: reason i love it buddy!!!
I would say i cant wait for the corals to grow but i already love the tank!
Thanks, I cant wait till they are hella big, mature size!
Looking amazing Kevin, in a short while will be a TOTM no doubt!
Love those butterflies, beyond beautiful! Are they known to be SPS safe typically?
Thanks buddy, Lots of Japanese reefers have been having success with these butterflies. They were obsessed with my green stylo. They wouldn't nip it at all but they would hover around it just staring at it... Like it was some kinda shrine or something. I could actually reach in and push them away from the coral, no joke. They never touched an sps polyp.
I have terrible news about the declivis though. On Tuesday, they both passed away in the same night. I am incredibly depressed about the situation. They contracted ich from a fish in my QT about a month after I got them so I treated them with quinine. After they had shown no signs of ich and were eating with gusto, I tossed them in the DT. Well, after a few weeks the ich spots were back. Worst nightmare! since they were now in the DT. I was crazy busy with work and let them go for a week and a half in the DT. All was well, they were eating and ich spots were minimal. This past Sunday, out of nowhere, they were INFESTED with ich. I've never seen a case this bad, EVER. (perhaps since they are more delicate butterflies) I set up the QT Monday night, set out to catch them Tuesday morning but when I woke up...... It was too late. They had passed. Its a devastating loss for me. I was so proud to own such magnificent creatures. I am ashamed that I didn't take action sooner. I now have to catch the remaining fish and leave the tank fallow. A task I am not looking forward to. Perhaps one day I will own these awesome fish again but for now, I am gonna have to put fish on the back burner.
Looking good, thanks for the update.
Looking great hope to see it in person soon
Thanks guys
Looks awesome mate, great work on the scape.
I think a school of about 9-11 blotched Anthias would look really cool swimming in that branchy scape......... if your partner questions the large cost just tell her biggles gave you the ok - i've got your back Kevin.
Thanks, Im not a big fan of borbs. they are ugly IMO. Like a leper on a bad hair day.
Send Biggles the bill for the school of Blotched Anthias if the wifey isnt happy mate. I'm sure Biggles can sell a few Strawberry Shortcake colonies collected by this pet Kangaroo and easily recover the cost. :lmao:
Which reminds me, I need to send Biggles the bill for my new REAL fish tank, since my current fish tank is just a fake
Pics or it didnt happen.
