acrylic buffing

A variable speed polish/ grinder and a quality wool pad, Rubbing compound, and some elbow grease will get the job done. I just recently did it on my TARNISHED 40 gallon, Blurred beyond belief with a scotch bright pad. After an hour of work ( interior of the tank) it looks almost brand new. Of course the huge LV gouges were still apparent but its good enough for an hour of my time. Dont set teh RPM's too high or youll melt the plastic

I had some crazing on some S&S acrylic tanks I purchased a few years back. Is crazing something that can be removed with a surface treatment like scratches, or is the irregularity even deeper than a scratch?

mocha920,

thats the same exact product that i got with the 90 gallon i purchased. i recently had time to try it out and the result was a hell of alot better than i expected!! when i first started off, areas of the tank looked like it was cleaned with a brilo pad!! (no offense Derek)

i started with the 3500 grit and worked my way up to 8000 then used the liquid abrasive to buff out. besides the deeper scratches that ill probably get to later, (or not) doesnt really bother me. as long as i can see thru the tank clearly is all that matters. took me atleast 7-9 hours to complete but definatlyworth the time!

cant wait to start the plumbing!

ill post some pics hopefully tonight if i make it home early enough. just painted the back black also and gonna get started sanding and repainting the stand and canopy so im making more progress than anticipated. cant wait to get it up and running but i know that will be awhile from now but i will definitly keep updated.

heres a few pics after buffing and adding some water.....
