Actinic Debate

Hi All,

I just finished sort of a debate with a friend of mine regarding actinic bulbs and thought I would toss it out there for debate.

I have always run my actinics for the same time as my daylights and have not had any real issues. However, my friend leaves his actinics on all the time. He states that there is no effect by running actinics 24 hours a day. I cannot see how that can be the case.

Does anyone else out there run their actinics 24/7? If so, have you seen any adverse effect?

Thanks

His critters must think the sun never sets. I run my lights on 12 hr cycles. Actinics on first, halide for high noon, Actinics for evening and then a dark cycle. Blue LEDs for lunar cycle. Fish have to sleep sometime

i agree with schristi69 100%, we are trying to simulate where and what they came from and what they live in,in all ways so why would they prefer a 24/7/365 light blitz ?yes they have light at night but i think that is best replicated with the low lunar lighting that is provided by the led lunars .

Are you sure that fish sleep????

I dont agree with leaving the lights on 24/7, just wondering if you think fish sleep?

many wrasses bury themselves at the same time every night to sleep. my mandarine for instance, you can pick her up when she is sleeping and is white as a ghost. I have caught my clownfish a number of times by waiting until lights out

Maybe they do sleep. Idk, i have seen fish like gobys and wrasses bury themselves at night, but I though it was just to hide from predators, cause everytime i looked at them, theirts eyes fallowed me.

But your probally right
