Adding a gig

I was in petco today and they had a carpet labeled as a S. Gig. I already have a ritteri. Would these two be compadable? The one at petco is really nice looking and I would hate to see it sit there and die in there tanks. it just come in today and the mouth and everything looks good. My tank is a 90gallon. I know I would eventually have to rehome it to another tank because the two would out grow my tank.

Better look at it twice... Make sure its a gig and not s. helianthus... My petco has 3 of them and they haven't sold yet... Nothing wrong with helianthus but I don't think they host any clowns... Check the verracue if its purple/blue only on top of upper coloumn and usually has a blue foot...
Helianthus verracue are brown/honey color and present on upper mid column and on the foot.

Lets hope its a gig

Hmm leave it to petco to have something mislabeled. I've not seen the foot yet I'll look at it this afternoon and see. it had already buried it in the sand. Will it be compadable with my Mag. ?

I have never seen a gig at the Petcos in my area. However, on a few occasions I've seen haddoni and helianthus both mislabeled as gigantea. The worker told me that the nems are labeled as "Stichodactyla anemone" when they come in, and the workers open the binder with the labels and visually match the label to the nem.

But, to answer your question, I think they may be okay together. However, when I purchased a gigantea I sold my magnifica to avoid any allelopathy..

If its foot is buried it's most likely a haddoni. The haddoni I've seen at Petco were all healthy and moving around a lot.

Gigs will have purple/blue spots under its oral disc and most likely a blue foot.

Haddoni no visible spots under its oral disc and a cream foot.

Helianthus will have brown/fawn spots under its disc.

Do a quick check of pictures on this forum. There's been a couple of examples of heliantus nems in the last couple of mouths.

I made this mistake a couple of months back... Looked like a gig, and I couldn't see it's foot, and column, so I took the chance... Got it in the back and home.. it was a helianthus.

Rarely, and I mean rarely will petco get an actual Gigantea. I still stop in every couple of days just in case though.

Petco will in a blue moon get in gigs... My two green gigs are from petco... Mostly it's helianthus or haddoni come in as carpet anemone... The vendors sends out these because they know petco won't complain... Hehehehe

Didn't go back today, decided against it. I don't want to chance loosing my ritteri.

I think that is a good decision. I know that I have a bigger appreciation for my gig only after losing my first one. You'd be kicking yourself if you lost your magnifica.

Thanks it a beauty. I would hate to loose him. I got lucky on the first try and got a healthy one id hate to lose him by doing something stupid. As you can see my clowns who just started laying would hate it two. This is there second clutch
