Adding chromis & neon gobies to finish stock list

60 gal Reef+20 gal sump/fuge, skimmer, sometimes carbon/GFO, vodka/vinegar dosing

Current stock:
yellow candy hogfish
Azure damsel
red firefish x 2
Algae Blenny
(just removed 3 stripe damsel - 4 years overdue)
sidenote: at the beginning, the 3 stripe was bullied by another fish. After that fish was gone - years later, the 3 stripe became a huge bully himself. With him gone, I wonder if one of the other perfectly mannered fish will step up to become the jerk. Hogfish perhaps?

would like to add 3 blue-green chromis so the water is more active
and neon goby x 2 for small interestingness.
Sorta leaning toward the yellowline version http://www.orafarm.com/product/yellowline-goby/ unless the yellow pencil shape (though very different size) would trigger bad behavior from the yellow candy hogfish.

FTS attached (I hope)

Apparently the old intended fish purchases thread, though closed, still answers your questions. I've only read about 20 pages so far, but learned important things:
1. multiple blue/green chromis thing is a myth. They winnow down to 2 or 1.
2. 2 Firefish not paired do the same thing. After reading this, I can see it happening in my tank, one ff is constantly chasing/harassing the other.
3. The whole notion of "social" fish is not really accurate in home aquaria. Much more likely to tolerate fish of another species than more fish of their own. Same species viewed as competitor for resources.
4. many more amazing interesting possible fish combinations that I imagined.
and finally

5. Snorvich is Saint and a Superhero.

Correction: Snorvich is Chuck Norris

Why not take a look at some of the reef safe flasher wrasses. Very colorful, peaceful always swimming out and about. I've got a McCosker's wrasse and I couldn't be happier with this fish as a choice. Also take a look at Gold Midas Blenny, this is actually now my favorite fish. Bright yellow, cute face, very personable. Both of these are on sale at a very good price on Live Aquaria. Both have video's of them.

agree with all but #1.
the reason most people see them die off down to one or two is because of improper feeding, chromis need to be fed 3-4 × a day ideally. Like anthias in the wild they are constantly plucking food items out of the water column. If you start with a group of comparable sized chromis and feed theme properly there is no reason to expect them to "whittle" down to 1 or 2.

Hehe. You read my mind.
The fairy and flasher wrasses are much more awesome than I was aware of.
My last look at wrasses was focused on finding something to eat some bad mannered amphipods that were munching on zoas. Lots of stories about those wrasses becoming headaches.
Yellow candy hogfish does that job awesomely, and with personality.
Gold Midas blenny, and orchid dottyback are the other two fish that thread has really increased my respect for.

Sorry about keeping that thread closed; I am undergoing chemo after some rather major surgery. When the thread was open, I was able to keep response time rather quick (mostly) but now during my "crazy" cycle, I am unable. I hope to reopen that around Feb. 12 or there about.

I saw in other threads that the reason was medical. Your heroic efforts in that thread are definitely appreciated. like I said, read through it a bit and your questions are answered somewhere in there.
And you learn a bunch of other stuff along the way.
Here's to a speedy recovery.

I got 3 neon gobies (ORA, tank-raised) on Black Friday. They aren't very free-swimming; they tend to hang out along the top of my rock wall and I have to look for them when doing a headcount. They do come out at feeding time though. And I get a kick out of being swarmed by them when I put my hands in the tank - although it can be annoying when I'm trying to do something and they keep getting in the way. It's pretty magical having cute little fish nibbling all over you, though!
