amazing....simply amazing!
all of this growth doesn't affect your flow?
how many pumps do you have in there adee?

Thank you.

There are dead spots, will have too weed out some corals soon. I don't have enough pumps, ideally u want the flow to move through the corals. Contemplating a pair of MP60s

Adee,

How much do you prune your corals?
Do you trim just the bits that are getting in the way or sticking out of the water, or do you cut out large chunks of coral and let it regrow anew?

Simply a stunning tank! A real inspiration for me and my upcoming big tank.
Thank you, my pleasure to share.

I don't intentionally do anything when the touch or grow to the surface like that. I Let nature do its thing. What I'm worried about now and this is because of the sps being so dense, Is the flow going through. Ive tried to aid this by sticking to staghorn/Formosa formations, but like my big blue in the middle....its sadly taken on a bout of STN...

I have to "reboot" my system and do some serious culling, so these pics will soon change as I reverse the coral sizes to what I had two years ago. I need to redo scaping to rid my tank of blue sponge that has taken over every bit of LR in my display. But hey, that part of the hobby, make changes and watch things grow again. Beside I have some awesome pieces in my grow out tank that need permanent mounting.

This is going to be interesting... What is your plan?
"Simple" rescaping and coral trim or have you got something more elaborate planned?

Adee, your reef is looking absolutely stunning!!!

Have you ever thought of adding a surge tank?
Thank you! Nope, cantt think of how the plumbing will work....sound complicated for me.

I stick with the simple, I maintain that rock work should not do the scaping, but corals should....end result I don't want to see any rock work. I'll stick to branching, staghorn and formosa shapes. Also I want my bubble to have more open space....she is hidden and has grown a lot. Less is more, but the ones I do replant must grow big again.

Adee, I see one of your tanks has 1000lbs of live rock and a skimmer while the other has a DSB and chaeto I believe? Oh, and turf scrubber on the frag tank... What would you say has shown the most help in terms of nutrient control, is it better to have the lr and skimmer, skimmer and fuge? ect. ect. I only have a 18g tank with a 10g sump that holds roughly 6g of water. I currently am running a bb fuge with chaeto and a small skimmer. I was thinking of possibly doing away with that and just going with a large skimmer and some rubble in the sump. Just want your opinion being you have so much experience with multiple layouts. Thanks in advance.

Heya, all my sumps and tanks are part of one system, so they all enjoy the benefits of skimmers, DSB, Chaeto, LR and ATS. Small systems such as yours i find more complex, simply because the ratio of water volume (and its live stock contents) tend to be high when compared to the filtration regimes being used. Chaeto is a great phosphate sponge....a DSB (suitably sized) is great as at keeping nitrates in check. I would up your skimmer to the biggest that u can fit in there in terms of space. I've seen guys use Siporax instead of LR to create large amounts surface area for denitryfing bacteria to colonize. I would assume some very porous live rock will do the same here. I have the space, so i simply just threw everything to the max that i could fit in...so i'm not really the best to copy unless space on your side is not an issue.

Thanks Adee, ended up going with no fuge for the sake of how small the area is. Don't think it would do much good at this size it would have been. Instead I will be incorporating around 20 more lbs of rock bringing the total to around 40lbs and using a a good skimmer. More than likely a reef octopus 150 or something comparable.

And some night time under the Orphek DIF LED's

these pics are a few weeks apart from the previous post....amazing difference noticeable after giving the tank a good scrubber (cleaned scrubber)

beautiful, you should do some trimming so you can add a few other corals lol theres barely any space for fish in that tank....i would love to see in person one day
