So we have a a blue spiny lobster in the tank who one day realized he was living in a buffet and took into some things i was not ready to part with. The bulk of it being 12 clams that were fresh in. Does anyone have any tricks for catching this thing. He hides in a hole at one end of the tank all day. He knows there is a warrant out for his arrest and dosent want to turn himself in. I would like to spare him the death penalty and provide him to a good home if possible.

Lobsters are very wary and can live to be huge if they find a good crevace to hide in. Try feeding and blocking his hole. In a 5000g tank a small lobster trap would probably work. Unfortunately, to bait the trap you will need some fairly foul fish, chicken, or cat food so be sure to run extra carbon.

You might also get it with a crab snare. This is a strange device I sell in my store that looks like a tiny bait box with loops of clear weed whacker line. You bait the box and wait. Whn the lobster grabs the trap, you haul him up like you are fishing. The nylon loops act like slip knot nooses and will grab him.

He is a picture of a snare. These were first built by someone here in the Puget Sound Area and they really work well. My 9-year-old son can drag up crabs all day long with one of these attached to his fishing pole.

No you can't catch fish with them. Only crab, lobster etc. I sell them but you should be able to find them at any decent bait & tackle shop.

Haha, well i dive for lobster in the keys every lobster season.

And in a 5000 gallon tank, I would say do it just like your lobster diving... Jump with a mask, use a tickle stick and a net... should work real easy.. lol

**** if the rock work isn't to deep, just pick him up. Do spiny lobster's have claws?? or are they like florida lobster.. if they have claws then use a tickle stick.

What in the world is a tickle stick? Also I think the lion fish would work great but then my next post would be "How do i get a lion fish out of a 5000gal reef tank"

A tickle stick is just a long stick you gently place under the tail of the lobster and "tickle" them and they walk right out. Once they are out you grab them or place a net behind them and they will swim right into it if frightened like by trying to grab them.
