Advice on paint for a canopy

Greeting fellow aquarists!

So I am elbow deep in my newest build, a 90 gallon predrilled setup I picked up from a fellow RC member, and in the process of refurbishing the stand I decided to build a canopy to house the lighting and prevent water lines to the back wall. I wanted to use a mildew resistant paint to prevent any unneeded wear and tear on the interior of the canopy. When I went to home depot to pick something up I realized that some of the chemicals in the paint could potentially kill my fish or corals! So does any one know of a paint I can use that will both help me keep the canopy of the tank from undue wear and tear and not kill everything alive inside of the tank itself.

Thanks

Dave

For wood likely to be in a humid area and maybe get splashed once in a while, I generally use either high quality exterior latex paint (if I want it white or some other opaque color) or spar urethane (if I want it clear). For areas likely to actually get wet, I use high quality two part epoxy (i.e. West Systems, etc.).

I've never really had a problem with mildew so I haven't concentrated on it with respect to finish choice.

I used this Behr primer & enamel mold resistant combo paint inside both my stand and canopy. 2+ years, no issues. Cheap too. Got it at HD.

It's pretty cool but I don't think there's any need for something that "extreme" in our applications. Wood coated in epoxy can survive being submerged more or less indefinitely, that's good enough for me. I don't really care if the water beads up and rolls off or not.
