afex's 135g Rimless Cube

You might as well leave the lights off until you get your livestock in the tank. No reason to feed any algae while you are away and it is only rock and sand.

say afex, may i ask why you went with T-5's and not MH?

i was inspired by european SPS tanks which were lit by T5 and use probiotics for nutrient control

love the set up, how do u like the bubble master?

mixed feelings about the bubble master. it skims great (thick coffee skimmate) but the knife gate valve isn't as easy to use as i hoped it would be. it becomes stuck, probably due to salt creep.

Really nice tank and stand man!! By the way what does A.G.E. stand for?

thanks :D Acrylic & Glass Exhibits

afex where did you get your ATI Power Module from? I've been trying to find a US source for the 10x80w version (60") and it has eluded me. While I realize you're using the 39w maybe your vendor carries the one I'm looking for as well.

Also did you purchase directly from AGE? I was under the impression you couldn't do that.

By looking at your sump, it seems like you have more than 8" of water level in the skimmer area? Correct me if I am wrong.... I have my BM200 under 6" min, and I have no problem with the gate valve. Maybe raising the skimmer to keep the water level constant would be good so you don't have to keep adjusting the the level in the skimmer... The ATi is extremely sensitive. I know when I dose or feed my skimmer goes crazy.

it was purchased from reefgeek.com. pretty sure they are the US distributor for ATI.

i went through the Fish Gallery store. www.thefishgallery.com. dealt with Chris B, everything went great.

the skimmer sits in 8" of water which does not fluctuate. i don't normally tweak my skimmers often, but i have it set to skim very dry right now and i wanted to set it to be a little wetter.

what i will probably do is take the thing out and give it a cleaning around the valve, loosen it up a bit, and then never touch it again :D

well, i am back from vacation and i have a fish :]

picked up a yellow watchman goby + tiger pistol shrimp pair today at my LFS.

no pictures yet, since they have made their current house in a camera-unfriendly spot. soon :D

it was fun to watch the shrimp wander around the sand until he found a rock and then immediately start digging. the goby was put in a few minutes later and took about 10 minutes of swimming around before he found his pal. now i'm sure they are inseperable.

question to my thread readers: do you have a profilux or aquacontroller which is connected to your home network? do you want to test out a new website i'm working on? feel free to send me a PM if so.

also, got some pics of my goby. not the best shot, but i wanted some photographic evidence. :D

tank is doing great, but i am definitely thinking i need to mix in a larger grade sand in with my oolite in order to give it some weight against the flow of the powerheads.

i purchased a temporary koralia 4 powerhead, just to get by until i have my tunze 6055.

new additions: a white-face tang and acropora frag.

Love the pictures of the acro and the tang, beautiful.

What kind of camera do you use? Do you use the macro setting when shooting in tank pictures?

Also, I'm curious about how you went about acclimating both the acro and tang. Did you QT them for a while or what?? The reason I ask is because my space is limited and setting up even a 10g qt might be difficult for me.

thanks,

camera is a nikon d80. the tang shot was using my 50mm f/1.8 lens.

acclimation was simple temperature adjustment. (bag float) i'm not too worried about QT atm, mainly since there isn't anything else in the tank to infect :D

ahhh d80.. way out of my league. My friend has a d60 and boy are those cameras sweet. How long do you let the bag float for? And do you keep the top open? thanks, more pictures please!
