After Effects of Frankenstorm

So who got hit by this so called "storm" over here in the SYracuse area (lakeland) we are just a little wet and warm today...hows everyone else doing?

Sucked for those poor bastards on the coast... Here, a big pile of meh. I stayed up late last night and it was "windy" but please. We get worse from a routine lake effect snowstorm. I will say one plus: All the leaves are off the trees in my neighborhood and the weather is supposed to rock this weekend, so I can get the raking and final lawn mow done with relative ease.

Looks like I dragged a wagon-full of gas around my streets for no good reason

Pretty much. I have family in NJ and the DC area. They got absolutely hammered.

We were fine here in Rochester for the most part. There were some power outages, but it wasn't nearly as bad as they were making it out to be.

:lolspin:
it definitely lived up to the hype.

It definitely did NOT live up to all the hype in my neck of the woods! The weathermen cry wolf FAR too often for me. Same ol' same ol'. I've come to discount EVERYTHING they predict. I make my plans regardless of forecasts.

As far as we are concerned, yea it didn't end up being close to what was predicted but that doesn't give anyone the right to act like its some of big joke. Its nearly impossible to predict what a hurricane is going to do several hundred miles inland.

Pretty safe to say that its one of the more destructive hurricanes in terms of population affected.

But yea, some of you guys didn't feel the pain up here so that's all that matters :uhoh2:

The right?!? Come on Jon, be cool.
Since it's nearly impossible, all I'm sayin' is weathermen shouldn't make dire claims if they don't know. I agree it was destructive. I agree we need to be forwarned as well as science allows. Just quit with the world is going to end / yellow journalism we get in this region.
Don't feel the pain? We all will. Our insurance companies will make sure of that. Our taxes going to the federal emergency relief slush fund will make sure of that.
I'll stop now. I think this may be bordering on inappropriate

Steve, did you lose power today/tonight? We didn't have power from 3p-7p. We told the kids that "it's what everyone does" the night before Halloween.

We did lose power, yes. The exact same time frame.
Thank goodness for my Honda knock-off generator I got at Pepboys a few years back. I paid 1/3 the price. Part for part identical. Check them out. They may have similar product now-a-days.
Steve

I'm in Southern Maryland and we got hit pretty hard. Luckily, my place didn't get any damage and I pretty much live in a forest. I guess the big storm last year took down most of the trees, this year there wasn't as many.

But I haven't been out yet. My work has been closed and we didn't want to go messing around yesterday. I guess I'll know more soon how bad my friends got it.

Steve...yes....I was just lightening the mood...that mysterious piece of equipement the Govt has to create national disasters......

Thanks Sean..... sometimes lightening thing up is key to getting along.
...red solo cup for the Halloween trek with the kiddies this evening everybody?

The weather dominator? I thought that was COBRA.

'Frankenstorm' pretty much fizzled before reaching Rochester. I thank God.

That being said, I know of people that lost power around the same time I did (6:45PM Monday) that still have no power. Power outages in Webster were widespread and localized.

In any case, I feel their pain and I'm hoping everyone gets back up and running soon. This could have been way worse and I'm glad it didn't hit in the middle of winter.

We drove through it from Tampa, ran into very strong winds in Northwestern North Carolina. Car was really buffeted by the heavy winds , then we ran into snow as we got into Western Virginia/West Virginia...then Lots more wind and heavy rain through Maryland and Pennslyvania. The Poconos were also really foggy on top of everything else.
Glad to be home ...Prayers go out to the people in New Jersey and downstate NY ...

i finaly spoke with one of my drivers from NJ and they got hammered . anything near water and inland tributaries was just smothered with water . he still has no power and is lucky to have his house left . really its a pretty serious situation for a lot of folks that saw the eye near sea level .
