Aggressive confrontation while getting saltwater at Scripps Pier

At 6:30pm today, my wife and I went to get saltwater from Scripps Pier. As I drove down the road, I slowed for the surfers to move their boards, and for a car to park. There was someone in a large pickup that drove up behind me and got aggressive by getting very close to my rear bumper every time I moved forward and started waving his hand toward me and said to get the F out of his way.

I put my hand up in the air....then moved into the loading area. While I got out of my car to get to the tailgate, he pulled his truck behind mine, effectively blocking my car in and got out of his car. He got right up to me, inches to my face, and told me to get the F out of his way again. He was there to get saltwater and I was in his way. I told him to get in line....Unpleasant words were exchanged and things got more heated.

My wife then got out of the car and told the guy that he was wearing what looked to be UCSD scrubs and asked if he was affiliated with UCSD, then took a picture of him.

He seemed to be taken back by this, then just got in his truck and pulled over to the front of the pier gates. Guess the wife saved my butt as the guy did try to intimidate and instigate contact.

The guy was a white male, ~6 ft 6 inches, ~250 lbs, curling grey hair, bulbous nose, likely in his mid 50s. He was in sage green scrubs, driving a late model white Toyota Tundra extended cab.

This is very unsettling. This guy has serious anger management issues.

Even the surfers stayed clear of this guy.

Don't use the water if it's raining in that area.you need to give it a couple days to clear due to run off. Maybe the guys tank busted a seam and he needs water asap.but no reason to act like that

Glad you and the wife are OK. Should have got a picture of his lisence plate and turned him over to the cops for road rage/anger issues.

In all the years of going to UCSB to get water, I've never had an issue like that. Even when I'm filling up with 300 G. Most people are kind enough to wait. I have let a few people get water in the midle of my fill up if they only need a few 5 G buckets full.

I wonder if he's seeing this thread or someone has recognized the description given (bulbous nose, I like) and let him know. Have you also posted on SDMAS or SDreefs?

i'd report it to UCSD so there's a record of it. nothing will prob come out of that but incase another person in the future has the same encounter, there will be a record of previous encounters for whatever reason.

+1, the next time it happens this guy might actually hit someone, and chances are this incident won't come as a huge surprise to his superiors. You may be saving the next people from something really ugly by emailing the picture to UCSB.

I posted the same thread on SDreefs with pictures of his license plate and a bit more info, so others are aware of my incident and hopefully avoid potential conflict. Don't know what the policy was with posting pics like that here.

You could post the pictures here, if you like. I don't know if I would, though. You're making accusations, identifying the person that you're accusing sounds to me (I'm no lawyer) like something that could be used against you, if this person wanted to.
I'd never condone the actions you described, but I've been in situations on the road that have caused me to have words with another driver. I wonder how differently the other driver remembers the events leading up to when he lost his temper in this case, or if he remembers losing his temper the way you describe it.
I drive professionally, and have had a few times where people called to complain about something I "did to them" on the road. What was relayed to my boss was never remotely similar to my recollection of events.
I wasn't there, I'm not saying you did anything you shouldn't have done, just that there are always two sides.

Hold on before dogpillin on the supposed perpetrator, new info from the other guy that may show he may not entirely at fault on SDreefs. I believe that there are two sides to every story & then there's the truth!
