aggressive lagoon

Oh no -- not the bluefin! I have heard of lions jumping so when I added a melanurus wrasse to the lion tank it was the fourth reason for putting a top on. I kept thinking though that I needed to get a top on. I am so sorry. Heartbreaking.

dood...that totally sux, esp. since it was your bluefin.

we lost a pure red fuzzy to carpet surfing, and i've had to pick up another at 3AM when it jumped (it was fine). we totally feel your pain...

yep, it is not easy losing any fish, but i just cant bring myself to getting another one knowing their track record. i felt i was really fortunate to have one do so well.

the only thing i can think is that it was having a dispute with the fu and jumped to get away, but i dont know.

i dunno...i can say without reservation that fuzzies can and will jump, even lone specimens (both times ours were alone). i dunno if they get spooked, or what.

Renee and i were just talking yesterday how much it sucked for you to lose the bluefin of all fish. you are to be commended for your success, however. if you can find another fish in good shape, i'd say go for it (but i suck at restraint).

couple of pics - first, the fu in actinic only

now, the sargassum angler that thinks he belongs in the sun coral - he goes back and forth between this black one and the large orange one i have. no lights, just flash.

ok, the critters seem to be making a difference in the aiptasia except on the top of the rock columns, so i nuked those with the rest of the bottle of aiptasia x that i had (about 3/4 of a bottle)

here are pics of my snow covered plateaus after the dusting of the monsters

this tank just gets better every time I see it...

just curious, are you still just doing a 5g water change weekly? I was wondering about this because I have been trying to figure out the filtration system for my 125g and would love to go with this all natural method.

Thanks so much for taking the time to really flesh out this thread with pics/info, it has been really fun to read. :)

I too have lost dwarf lion to jumping from tank. I have a pet theory that it is overly-enthusiastic hunting behavior that causes them to fly from the top of the tank.

happyclam - thanks, yes i do 5 gallon water changes twice a week

trigger - sounds like a good theory, i just never expected that type of behavior from a lion.

sorry it has been so long since i have updated.

turns out, the last day of my vacation at the end of june, i got a phone call that all of my fish were dead (actually the eel and the red coris survived). apparently the foam prefilter got clogged up while i was away and the circulation decreased so much that there was not enough gas exchange overnight when the wavebox is off.

i am only now really starting to enjoy the tank again. i have a volitans that is about 5" long (was tiny when i got it) as well as the eel, red coris, yellow tang, small niger trigger, couple of damsels and a pink skunk that are all doing well.

coral wise, i didnt lose anything right away, but some died over the next few weeks. the tank has really turned around since then and everything seems to be healthy and happy. i will post some pics soon...

Sorry you lost them -- stinks that something always seems to happen when one goes away. I always worry when I travel as no one "looks" at the tank and system like I do.

definitely wasnt the way i wanted to end a vacation, but it could have been worse i guess.

anyway, here is what the tank looks like now

Biocube Cabinet with Canopy

Biocube Cabinet with Canopy

Hi -
I saw where you built a cabinet with canopy for a Biocube 29 owner and was wondering if you could do the same for a Biocube 14? Thanks!!
