Love your corals and fishies. Do you still just have the 4 T5 bulbs? I need more bright corals in my tank ... want more reds and oranges!

yes, but remember i also have solar tubes over the tank and the light coming in is getting brighter by the day as we approach summer.

I always thought the solar tubes would be a great idea. Have you ever tested the par at full light? The tubes end about 4 feet above the tank right?

i have never tested the par in the summer. in the winter, it was very low. yes, they end at the ceiling, about 4' above the tank. the ones i have are very long tho, 16', since they have to go all the way thru the 2nd floor to get to the roof.

But they look pretty wide in one of the shots --- almost a foot in diameter? Sorry to keep asking questions but I really want to try it someday. SOunds like you have to have something else on there though because of the winter.

no problem on the questions. there is a very long thread in advance topics linked below with lots of info

the ones i used are the 13" dia tubes. when i had the big tank, the stand was taller and i had extensions on the tubes that brought them down to about 12" above the water. i only ran actinic lights for supplement year round then.

sadly, the radiata was dead today. i never saw it eat, and it had no visible damage from shipping. it also had a nice full body, not a sunken in belly, so i am not sure why it did not live. it was only in the tank for a couple of days, and everything else looks healthy.

yeah, i am pretty disappointed. i thought i had really lucked out finding one that looked so perfect in the lfs...

thanks for the compliments :)

i have really enjoyed putting this one together and am really happy with the simplicity of it.

christy got some pics of the fu and bluefin having words with each other last night - just actinics on.

she also got about 7 minutes of video that i will edit this evening and post.

very cool Ace!

i'm glad to see your lions are doing well, esp. the bluefin. are you still running 75*F? what are you feeding it?

BTW, i saw a GORGEOUS russelii yesterday at the LFS that tends to get oddball stuff like scorps. this fish was super red, and where a russelii is normally white, this specimen was very pink/salmon color. if we had only had the room...

sad morning.

i have never heard of a lionfish jumping out of a tank - until this morning.

RIP bluefin.

What an awful thing to have happen :( I didn't think it was something to worry about either. My fuzzy jumped out once while I was on vacation. I got very lucky since someone was there at the time to check on the fish. She fought off the cats and used a big cooking spoon to toss him back in.
