So from what I read both are correct, which I can't believe because one really annoys the heck out of me, but anyways how do you say:

As I remember it from my horticulture classes, scientific names are meant to be pronounced in the dialect of the speaker. However, I think ah-crop-o-ra (as in "acropolis") is probably what Lorenz Oken intended.
 
I've heard it pronounced both ways. I personally use the latter form from your post.
 
Well seeing as how the word probably came from the greek "akron" for extremity( height, summit, tip) and the latin "porus" or greek "poros" meaning pore, porosity, I pronounce it acropora (ack).
