AI Director Beta - Who got picked? Lets talk 'Director'!

Did you try using the dongle and looking for the Director WiFi and connecting to that? The instructions say to connect to the directors wireless network first, THEN try to connect to it via the route above.

If when its connected via ethernet, have you tried accessing it via the IP address AI shared in the instructions VS he IP your router gave it?

I did try using the dongle, but my desktop computer doesn't have WiFi. My router can detect a wireless device and assign an IP address to it though. I did trying using the IP address AI shared in the instructions, but it did not work either.

I consider myself slightly above average with computers, but the only way I can get a green light is with an ethernet connection and it doesn't get me very far.

I may try just using the wifi again, but I tried with my laptop which has the ability to scan for wifi, and it didn't pick up anything.

You kind of knew this up front, why did you just wait for the main release if you didnt accept the terms?

Well, as I said before, I've never had a beta test that basically didn't work out of the box. I guess everyone's idea of a beta test is a bit different. I figured I'd at least be able to see my vega in the GUI, but I can't even get that far.

I'm not mad, but I don't feel they have all their ducks in a row. They should have at least setup a special forum for people involved in the beta program. When I've worked with Adobe in the past, they have a forum where you interact with the programmers directly.

Are you running Windows, OSX or something else? Have you tried a different browser?

Are you running windows? Their instructions say that you cannot connect to it directly form Windows unless you have Bonjour installed, but even that did not help me.

Try going to my.aquailluminations.com, registering and adding your director's serial. That worked for me. I can see my director through their website.

I'm on OS X, and I always have safari, firefox and chrome running as I do web and photo work. Using different browsers is always a must with any software or webpage.

Looks like you guys are having some fun! Just got my 3 hydras and held off buying the controller in anticipation of the Director. Is there any idea of when it will be released to the public with all the issues ironed out? What's the typical turnaround time from beta to public release?

Ok, so I'm into the main screen. I held down the button on the back of my vega until it blinks green and red and I hit discover, but it doesn't discover anything. Any tips?

dj since you are clearly more computer savvy than me, maybe you know if the fact that Bonjour is required that it uses some kind of protocol that wont work the method you are using? I would imagine the method of connection is very specific since it requires bonjour.

If you want to run Ethernet, unplug the wifi usb and power cycle unit.

Thank you. I downloaded Bonjour and unplugged the wifi usb and now connected via ethernet only. I got a different screen, so I'm getting somewhere now.

Have to play some more tomorrow, going to bed now

Thanks again!

Well bonjour is a networking protocol developed by apple. Its basically meant to take the tech out of networking to make it easy for people to connect additional peripherals with little or no knowledge of networking.

I'm guessing that these things some how phone home internally and that's what's creating the issues. It makes sense, otherwise you end up with a web GUI that needs to be updated every time a firmware update is sent out. I've seen several home control peripherals that work that way, thermostats, etc. It works well and allows the developer to make changes on their end without issuing new firmware every other day.

Are the LED fixtures on or off? How close is your Director to the lights? Vegas or Hydras?

The Vega is off at the moment, I turned it off by click the red button until they were off so an not to annoy my GF.

The director is in the tank stand, so its probably within four feet or less.

Try moving it out from under your tank. Maybe the water in your tank is decreasing the signal to much. Might also try connecting it directly to your router as I have had some issues resolved when I stopped using the WiFi dongle.

Sounds like you are on an even keel DJ, although I hardly think comparing an LED manufacture for the reef industry to Adobe is fair... I trust they will make it right with some time. If you arent satisfied for now just hang tight and wait for them to work through what they have already learned.

I agree it would be nice to work no problems out of the box, but if was going to happen I would have expected them to skip beta altogether, so I fully expected to not have it be flawless.

I did have a different experience though as I was able to get the Director on my wifi network, access it, make changes, connect to the lights etc. I havent spent the time to make a program, but they are operating on the director right now on manual intensities. I did most of it via the local network though.

Well, now I made it to this point after putting the director right next to the Vega. Funny thing is, it still shows no signal. Also, when I click save, and refresh the page, the discovered unit disappears, and the only way to get it back is to go back to the Vega and press the button again.
