Well, it's not "worthless" because all of the problems being reported can be fixed via software updates. The hardware seems fairly solid. It seems they just didn't do enough testing before calling this thing beta quality and shipping them out.As of right now is the director basically worthless or what?
Dunno how many updates it will take. However, I definitely would not call it "reliable" at this point. If you have VEGAs you might be okay(maybe). If you have SOLs connected via wireless adapters, just stick with your current controller for a while. Hopefully they'll have the basic issues fixed within a week or so.Could we expect at least 10+ firmware upgrades / software patches before this is a reliable and useful product?
Erm, no. Bugs are one thing. A lighting controller that fails to control lights in any way (manual or automatic mode) is not a beta product. The software on this thing is firmly in "alpha" territory. Folks using it with VEGAs seem to be having a bit more luck. However, it seems AI just simply didn't do enough testing with the Director when used with SOLs via wireless adapters. If you signed up as a beta tester you should be prepared to deal with bugs etc. That's the point of beta testing!!
Haha, thanks. I know the definition of beta. I still think they should have tested it to see if the lights can actually be controlled before sending these out. The whole point of beta testing is to catch issues the development team didn't. If they didn't catch the bug where SOLs can't be controlled then that's one crappy development team.
You're still missing my point but I'm not going to argue. I'm glad yours works and you can help them test it. I, like several other people with SOLs had to go back to the old controller so our lights would actually turn on. If the thing can't turn our lights on then we can't use it and thus can't help them test it. You'd think that's something they would have taken care of is all I'm saying.
Send me yours and I will pass it on to someone who would like to Beta test it.
