AI Director Beta - Who got picked? Lets talk 'Director'!

After a one day learning curve on how to setup my new AI Director, I'm now running in full wireless mode.

I'm enjoying all the features the Director has to offer, and I wonder if AI will create an auto feature to change the sunrise and sunset times on a daily basis, which would be so slick. If they can write program code to area weather conditions via zip code, I'm sure they could have auto sunrise and sunset capability.

All I have to say about the AI Director, it's amazing and so simple to use.

Have a good afternoon,
Randy

Submit the request to them and they may add that feature!

Great news, AI just released a new upgrade, which the real time weather is now working. I typed in my zip code and then I selected my city. Right now it's clear and sunny in San Mateo, CA.

I just have to say, the AI Director is amazing.

Thanks again to AI for making a excellent product.

Randy

wondering if the weather feature will work in Canada, not that my tank would be impressed with daylight dropping and snow.

Just type in zip and select your city. Once your have selected your city and light intensities, make sure you save your settings.

Have a good evening,
Randy

Update on the AI Director...There's one little feature that either I either failed to read or AI decided to incorporate into the world weather feature. When you set your zip code, not only do you receive your real time weather conditions, the weather function automatically turns on and off your lights based on the current sunrise and sunset times in your area.

At 6:48am this morning my lights turned on and at 4:56 pm this evening, my lights will turn off. Now that's a very slick feature.

Let me say, AI maybe slow at releasing product, which we all have ants in our pants and want things right now. But when AI releases their products to the market, they work at least beyond my expectation and they build a excellent product.

Just wait when the Hydra 52 are released, I'm sure they will surprise a few of our fellow reefers with there performance value.

Keep up the good work and engineering AI,
Randy

i received my director yesterday, had my lights (2 AI Vegas) working properly, then the upgrade happened.....and since then i have had problems, the lights kept failing to upgrade the firmware, reverting back to a 0.0.0.0 firmware, thankfully my old controller allowed me to get the lights back functioning, multiple attempts to get the lights firmware upgraded, and keep failing the same way, also even without upgrading, the lights seemed to not want to function or follow the schedule, kept getting errors about communication with lights and other communication errors. not sure what to do at this point, I've been in contact with AI, waiting to see if theirs a way to get this working

You'll need two things in order to get the Director working.

First you'll need to installed Bonjour on your computer and secondly, you'll have to enable your WPS on your router. Without performing these two functions, the Director will not be able to be located.

Once you have both of these key items, you'll have to type in the following to your URL....http://Director-XXXXXX.local The xxxxxx is the serial number on your Director. This is how it should look exactly on your URL http://Director-12345A1.local

If you don't know how to enable your WPS, just call your internet company and they will walk you through the process. The help desk at AT&T were very helpful, and now I'm a pro at enabling my WPS on my AT&T Gateway Router.

Just to let you know, I'm running Windows 8, and when I search for the AI Director, it still can't find the Director IP address. I just use the URL and type in the Director address into the URL.

One other key point is, when you plug in your Director unit with the UBS wireless key, it will first flash red for awhile, then turn solid red, then flash green and once it has found your Director, it will then turn solid green.

Once your Director has made the wireless connection, AI suggests you just let the Director sit on it's own for a few hours and receive the latest updates.

I know this is very frustrating for you, but once you have the wireless connection between your Director and computer/router, the Director is so simple to use and extremely powerful.

As I said before, the Director is amazing....Right now my two Vega units have been on ramp down within the past two hours and the lights will shut off at exactly 4:45 PST tonight, with clear sky's, thanks to the fine engineers at AI.

If you still have issues, let me know and I'll try to help you out further.

Here's a little trick when you are upgrading your Vega fixtures. Go into the AI Director page, make sure your Vega's have been discovered. Once discovered, select each Vega unit separately and select the firmware upgrade.

When I performed my Vega firmware upgrade yesterday afternoon, when I clicked on the firmware upgrade option, it' started to give me a percentage of completion then sat on 5% for about 2 minutes. During the process the lights went off and when the lights turned on by there own the firmware was complete. I think the AI Director software still has bugs to be worked out.

Give it another try, and it may work for you.

Good luck,
Randy

Thanks Randy for the tips, I have gone every which way about getting them upgraded and when i finally think they are upgraded, the lights kept randomly not wanting to communicate with the director , AI went in and switched up what wireless channels the Director was communicating on and that didnt do much, i just keep getting a ton of communication and failure errors "Things went wrong" im gonna keep using the controller until i can figure something out with AI on what the issue might be.

Try a factory reset on your Director unit, by holding down on the top on your Director for at least 15 seconds and then try to see if the Director unit communicates better with your Vega's.

It's worth a try,
Randy

I'll give it a try tomorrow. It's a pain because if the firmware update gets hung up the lights go dead. Thankfully I have the controller which uploads the firmware and gets lights functioning

Any one from europe with this? Wondering if its 110-220v like the leds are.

I'm from the Netherlands, and it's usb powerd. So if you buy a usb power plug or plug it in your computer. You can use it.

Running it now for 1 month without any problems
