AI Hydra Settings Thread

I do my acclimation manually. I turn up or down the LED intensity and raise or lower the lights as needed, based on what I'm seeing the corals are doing.

If you use the programmed acclimation, then you just set the power intensity once and the program will reduce the intensity for you... however, how would you know what the final intensities should be??? You're going to end up turning it up or down regardless based on the feedback the corals give.

That is a good point. I was playing with the one unit I got so far to see how it all works. My plan was to set the final setting then turn on acclimation and tweak if needed.

I switched to 4 hydra units about 3 weeks ago from a 6 bulb ATI fixture. I am currently running them at:

Whites: @35
and everything else @80.

My tank is 98% SPS. So far so good, I am happy with the color (to my eye) and corals seem to be just fine. I've had one turquoise tipped staghorn brown out a bit, but I can live with that for now. No bleaching on anything thus far.

If you don't mind why are you selling your lights?

Well I finally got my second light and got everything set-up last night. The settings I'm using:

UV: 60
V: 85
DB: 90
RB: 85
G: 15
R: 20
W: 45

2 hour ramp, Lunar with DB set to 5%, Clouds 20/20, lighting 1/10

I have acclimation set to 60% from yesterday until 3/11. But I also cut down the UV peak time down by 3 hours compared to the rest of the lights, it seems that is what causes most people to have issues. if I see any issues I'll knock other powers down a bit as needed in conjunction with the acclimation.

Also when I woke up this morning the Director update came through as well as firmware updates for the Hydra's

What intensitys do you think would be a good starting point? I like a blue look. My tank is a 20gal long fixture is 12 inches above water and I keep all zoa and palys in this tank. I just switched from a 4 bulb tek t5.

Actually, I'm not anymore. I had them marked as sold, but the deal fell through and I'm glad it did. I started playing around with them a little more and found a great setting that I'm extremely happy with. So looks like I will be keeping them for quite some time and see how the growth and color on my SPS develops.

What settings are you running? just interested on hearing everyones for i still tinker with them trying to get them just right. but i really like them so far.

I'm running:

Red: 20%
White: 40 or 45% (can't remember right now)
UV: 70%
Green: 75%
Violet: 80%
DB: 85%
RB: 90%

I really like the green added in, not so much the red. I think the green gives it the crispness I am looking for. If your a real BLUE fan this probably isn't the setting for you. With the greens turned up with the blues I get a nice balance (maybe 14-15K to my eye). I think the green washes away the purpleness (if that's a word) that I feel I get without them turned up. Too much red and it looks too pink IMO.

those are all close to mine now except the green, but wont that much green possibly cause allgae issues? just what iv heard i dont actually know if it will or not.

I'm not sure I'm on that wagon. Sure, I believe certain wavelengths may encourage algae growth, but with that being said if your nutrient levels are where they should be, it should never be a problem. I've only had this setting for a short time, so time will tell. I'm due to post a tank update soon over in the SPS forum.

Red and green are the wavelengths that don't make it very deep into the water and is used by certain algae to grow.

The director should continue to function if there is no Internet, but how long is Internet service out these days...lol

yes it will. i have had a few issues at first with my director and ai support told me it will work going off whatever program was last in it, also i wasn't able to access mine for almost 5 days and it ran fine just so you know for future reference.

The issue is my wifi drops often with the director... So for example.. Today I left own for a bit.... Tried to access lights while gone... said director not connected... I assume it was still running the cycle as normal..

Hey, what does everyone have night time set to? Couple percent blues?

Mine sometimes does the same thing but about 15 minutes later it connects. I have my night on deep blue min 5% and let the lunar cycle do the rest.

6% uv and 1% royal blue i just like to leave it at that and not use lunar. I've found all the corals really pop at night at these settings.

Anyways, I have a netgear router... Internet provider is time warner... Router is only about 15' away
