AI Hydra Settings Thread

Hey guys and gals, I'm starting to notice an issue with one of my hydras. I used to run 3 of the original hydras(I got them when they first came out). About 1yrs ago I downsized to just two fixtures, still just my ORIGINAL hydras.

Anyways, I'm thing,in one of the fixtures is "shifting" because the right side is growing GHA. The left side stay about 99.9% clear, and the left side the past 5-6mths I've noticed more and more GHA only on the right side of my rock structure.(I have two distinct rock piles so it's easy to see the "effect").

Both fixtures are running the same program/settings via my AWM and apex. Something just doesn't seem right. I had checked multiple times with my mq-200 par meter(which I just sold last week), but, my par was always very very very close to each other. My meter couldn't check spectrum or whatever.

So I'm thinking my right side hydra is shifting spectrums. Is this possible? How can I confirm? (My significant other mentioned swapping the fixtures to the opposite sides and see if the algae follows) Although a good idea I don't want more algae on my rocks/corals. If that's the only way then I'll try it.

I don't really wanna buy new fixtures just to "try", the thought of a $600+ purchase right now isn't gonna happen. Next month yes...if I have too.

Thanks for your opinions and thoughts,
Dane

Yes a shifting spectrum is absolutely possible. Try adding more blue, reducing reds/greens and increasing overall intensity. As cool white diodes age they will shift to a lower kelvin (hence the reduction in your red/green intensity). After about 10000 hrs of use these changes will slow. This knowledge comes from my previous work with led based televisions but I do not see why it also would not apply to aquarium led's!

Edit: As cool white diodes age they will shift to a lower kelvin and intensity is reduced at a rate of about 20-30000 hours to half brightness, with most of this occurring over the first 5-10000 hrs of use.

Like I said these are the very very first hydras. So the usage is up there, around 8hrs(some ramping) a day for what, like 4-5yrs maybe since the first hydra release?

Either way, I'll make some changes to that fixture and see what happens.

Can you remove the LED pucks and try to match together? Or is all 3 different color blues?

Did they send a whole new light or just led pucks?

Maybe you could out a set of blues on one end of each fixture, and 2 other pucks on the other end. Although end to end on each fixture would be different BUT when looking at the tank they would match.

Is any of that even possible? I know mine can be removed

Then, either send the other in for replacement or repair since it's under warranty and keep one light on the tank or swap out pucks. It's pretty easy to do. If not, then I don't know what to recommend.

Thanks. Is theres a special tool you need to open the light up or are they standard screws?

Hello everyone. Still trying to lock in on a good light schedule for my IM Nuvo 40. Depth is 19" with light 14" above waterline. I'm torn between Zibba and Reef Bloke's light schedule. Any suggestions? Currently have Zibba's loaded up with a 60% acclimation to the whites and the rest 30% over 2 months. I don't want to fry my corals. My concern is the whites peak at 54% at total 75Watts. My tank is SPS dominant.

Yes that's how I did mine as well. Select the am module....hold down the red butting on the light until it flashes and then hit attach on the dash board.

This problem would crop up from time to time between my 52HD and Prime HD so I just set them each to be parents and copied the settings from the original parent light. Now they work flawlessly. Also, it is not supposed to stop following the schedule when connection is lost but I would run into an odd problems such as the child cranking up to maximum intensity, schedule would be off by 10-15 min, light would turn off etc.

Did you ask AI for a solution or did you just come up with running 2 parents? Are these connection issues common? Any feedback from AI?
