AI Hydra Settings Thread

No, not bleached... They look pretty darn good with whites at 16-20... Anything past that my softies get translucent, and sticks fade... Then turn it right back down, and everything looks normal.

Wonder if more white will cause them to put on more sunblock and color up even further?

i think what your saying is yours corals don't "glow" as much as when you have lower white? they will do that, but you do need white light for growth I'm just not sure how much % you will need. some people like the looks of a "bluer" tank which does makes the corals pop more. i just try to get mine somewhere in-between. i have my white maxed now at 43%

A few questions about the director. Can you modify the colors on the lunar effect? Can you go back and change a preset once you save it, without dragging on the graph. Or do I have to start over. Finally, does the lunar setting override everything else during the hours you have it set? Thanks.

Question regarding the white settings..

I'm running my blues at 80, uv at 50 , violet 50, red and greens at 20 and whites at 15-20

If I bring my whites up past 20... All of my corals, soft and sticks, look very washed out...

I'm surprised at how many settings I see at 45-60

Are my corals just naturally washed out and I can't ell because I have the whites so low, or will increasing the whites gradually actually color the corals up? Does white light actually promote growth?

Nothing against you but i feel the same when i see your settings lol. I have two lights over my 90gal, mounted 9" awl and in a "V" shape(see pics). When i enter your settings in my tank is pretty dim and blue as well.

When i talked to AI they told me my settings were great, although ive heard a few people say the same, meaning they have said that others have great settings too. Although, after they saw my settings the only recommendation they had were to slowly raise the whites as high as possible without ill effects. When i talked to them my whites where at 65%. Ive gone up about 1% every couple days since.

And now, currently as of today my settings are...

W - 74
V - 75
R - 35
G - 35
B - 95
R - 95
U - 75

Timer-
11am-7pm - 3hr ramp
(11am-2pm/ramp/\, 2pm-7pm/current settings, 7pm-10pm/ramp\/)

Weather-
100%
5 per day
Random coverage
No lightning
Limit:2pm-7pm (to give corals alittle break only during peak hours)

Lunar Enabled
10pm-11am

Only thing that may make a difference is that i have a lot of surface aggitation. Maybe that knocks the light down some. Dont get me wrong, its bright, helps its in-wall so i dont have to stare at stray light. Cant tell if changing to reef chili for food, or the hydras for light, or both, but ive been getting decent growth fairly quickly.

Hard to say i guess, ive never used a par meter or anything to check. In early stages, couple months ago, i did shift around a few corals to help with the light change/upgrade. Now that everyone hasnt been touched since, they are all happy...or seem like it.

"From above"

From behind the wall/tank. And yes i have a V1 and V2 hydra lol.

Reason for mounting as a "V" shape, to follow the aquascape pattern

Im confused, LOL

Sonic, during the night or at least when the whites ramp down... Everything does pop
I think I'm going to run whites at 22 for the week, then get them up to 30 over the next couple..

The tank just seems dim... But I know that's not the case to the corals.... Here is another thing... My zoanthids are stretching..... Like they have about 1" stems on them... All are literally stretching upwards... Not enough lights?

I'll post water parameters in a bit... Just did a 10 gal change and vacuumed the sand bed

What type of salt is everyone using here? Red Sea pro is what I'm mixing for the past 6 months

I am running Red Sea pro also not sure if I like it been using ocean water always worked well for me may go back.

Twostepper I think you are on the right track. Once you hit 30 on whites and 95 on blues you will be happier. I was using instant ocean but got a deal on seachem and switched but hate it. It clouds the water after every water change. Probably switching to reef crystals.

I absolutely love it. It was made to my specs, 42x18x16 but I wish I would have gone 1/2 inch longer on the skimmer area since my sro is a bit cramped.

is anyone else having tech issues with the Hydra? My light turns on and off at times that are not set. Called AI they seemed to think it was a power cord issue. They have been very responsive and helpful and sent me a new power supply. the Director is now staying on with green light on top but the Hydra is still not working right. It turns on and off sporadically with all kinds of error messages. I have lost my zoas and have a tank covered in algae due to the hyrdra staying on for 24 to 48 hours and last night the light came on again at 2am seemed to be at 100%. I work 24 hour shifts and am not home to deal with this as it happens. My Kessill a360w hooked to a manual timer is looking like a better option. Does anyone want a hydra and director?

I'm guessing it's your motherboard. I've had lights flicker and not come on at the right times, but nothing more than that. Maybe update your controller and use that? I'm staying away from the director cuz it seems to have some issues that still need to be worked out. Plus I don't have a "need" for it for my tank

the hydra is 100% on its own it should be off it is 1036pm my settings have the light at sunset 4:50pm agggggggghhhhfff Hydra is melting my corals

now it is 100% blue, I am over this POS. I have 2 hydras and a director for sale the light is now 100% deep blue but my director and the webpage shows my lights should be off. I was ok with the bugs at first but it has now costed me me more money in lost zoas and sps than the light is worth. AI has had a great tract record but this light and the director is a piece of crap. I am going back to my Kesill a360 the money i have lost in coral would have paid for an apex.
