AI Hydra Settings Thread

Fan issues or is it that the settings are so low that the fans just don't come on?

Seems like the fan is controlled by a temp sensor like CPU heat sink fans. The unit will ramp the fans speed depending on the temperature sensor. I'm not sure why they don't leave the fan running at low RPMs while the LEDs are active but I'm guessing the passive cooling of the heat sink does a good enough job.

Full moon was on the 16 so they should be getting darker. Sunday is the new moon and I believe is the darkest.

Thinking of putting two hydras over my 40 breeder. Whats a good height to mount them? I currently run a 6x39 T5 about 8" off the surface.

I just watched a review from Mr. Salt Water Tank about the controller for the AI lights. This is probably an older review but I think the controller works with the Hydra as well. Have they fixed the problem he reported? He said there are no batteries in the controller so it must be plugged in all the time. If for some reason the controller loses power or is unplugged, the lights stay stuck in whatever mode they were in at the time until you return power to the controller. So, if you were on vacation and the power went out while your lights are on at full power, they would stay that way until you caught it and fixed it. Is this true, or have they fixed that? Check out the link below. He covers this at the 3:40 mark.

Also, can these lights be run in series? If you buy three, can they all be run off of one controller? Thanks in advance.

To answer your questions
1 yes the controller must be plugged in at all times for it to work, since they don't use batteries. So no power = no controller
2 Yes they can be ran in series, im running 2 on my system.

Also if you connect them to a timer or Apex the time acts like a backup.

Correct, lights should be turning off the next few nights for the new moon. I think Tuesday they will start to come on again.

Ok...question here. I know I'm a little behind the times but I am using the wireless controller with 2 hydras on a 57 rimless. I have lunar enabled 12-5 am. I have never had the lights come on/off for it...do I need to setup a timer with the color/% I want for that time?

i would suggest deepblue @ 5% 12pm-5am and enable moon setting

Ok... How do I set the color/%?

You go to the menu area where you have the color of each spectrum and use the left slider of the deep blues i believe and set the minumum to 5 percent and the max at whatever percentage your corals are happy with. I dont own any hydras but I know you can change the max and min from the controller I believe. Correct me if I am wrong Hydra Professionals.

What he said :)

I personally like the director - but keep in mind it is still in beta testing. The potential for this product should blow the competition out of the water. But untill they update it will depend what you want from the controller.
I do believe they will update and add the features needed.
Personally I would choose the director
