AI Hydra Settings Thread

wow that sounds like an awesome set up.

imo your red and greens seem very high - how long have you had this settings? in my experience and many others see negative effects with high level of reds and greens (algae and browning)

Well

This is my Setup

I have 15 AI Hydra52 and Full SPS (large colonies) under it.

My Midday settings are:

CW: 70
NW: 0
WW: 0
Red: 75
Green: 75
Blue: 0
Violet: 40
UV: 40
DB: 100
RB: 100

It is on 80% overal intensity and 1 feet over the tank. Puts arround 800PAR at 25cm bellow water and 400 at the top of my most deep table acropora.

This configuration is about 14-16.000 Kelvin

Has anyone lowered royal blue, but kept deep, uv, and violet high to balance out the color of the tank? I really REALLY hate having to keep the tank so blue, but I don't want to slow growth too much for something like aesthetics

interesting i personally don't have any other light source other than the hydras, mushrooms are not a good indicator of lighting imo.

Im interested in understanding how the t5 has helped with your sps. What type of bulbs, fixtures and photo period. Did your system start with t5?

Quote=blazen;22609798]i haven't had luck with sps corals under the hydras until i added the t5s to the tank. I have my whites at 62 percent with no issues, i haven't had any of the problems with "bleaching out" i have mushrooms growing 7 inches from the top of the tank and happy, if anything i don't have think they are strong enough. If you add great t5 fixtures sps will respond quickly and effectively, at least that has been my experience.

I have 3 current 6 lamp 20 inch fixtures. I had to build a new hood for the tank because the Hydras had to go up much higher, the tank had radion pro prior to the Hydras, everything grew amazingly, a steel cable slipped and the hanging fixture fell into the tank, I just couldn't spend the money to buy another set of radions, I really wish I had. I could only fit a 20 inch fixture in the new hood, I have one in the middle and one on each end. Within just a matter of days the sps looked so much better and I run them 6 hours a day. And the Hydras 9 hours.

Correct, lights should be turning off the next few nights for the new moon. I think Tuesday they will start to come on again.

With the DB set at a min of 5%, during New Moon there will be no lunar light during the time you we have set for the lunar cycle. Once the lunar cycle is over (mine is 5AM), the DB goes to 5% without a ramp. How do you correct for that so it stays dark until your sunrise time?

that is an interesting predicament... you have me wondering as I don't think I have been awake to see the lights kick on after a new moon, but yes they would go from 0 to 5% at 5am. Perhaps if the sunrise overwrites the lunar cycle you could set the lunar to end after sunrise. That would definitely be an Ai support question. Otherwise a few people can test it and see.

I thought you could cycle through the photo period in like a minute to see how the system Ramos up and down. Wouldn't it show then?

I have my lunar until 5AM and my sunrise at 8AM (this will be adjusted soon for the spring/summer season) and when I get up at 7AM my DB is set to 5% and everything else is at 0%. I was thinking of taking my DB down to 0% from 5AM till sunrise but I dont know if that would mess up other moon phases.

If you are using manual timers then it is easy to do but you might have to adjust the sunrise daily. The issue is when using the weather feature, it automatically adjusts the sunrise and sunset. I changed my lunar to end after sunrise to see if the sunrise overwrites it. If it doesn't then the same instant on will happen, just at a later time

Just got my director today. How can i post a picture of my setting here, and also how can i control it from my android or is t only Apple only at the moment. thanks

In windows 7 just use snipping tool to make a square around the settings, then upload it to something like photobucket, click the share link and select direct, then paste that link into the insert link button in a post. There is only an iPhone app at the moment so it can be controlled via the Web page but to move the sliders you might need a stylus since the bars are so close together.

You got a pic of us setting? Sorry to bug you sonic just figuring this out lol. I had my controller dialed in perfect want to make sure that I do the same here lol

I am using manual mode and do not have the weather enabled. I talked to AI yesterday and they told me to end my lunar sequence at sunrise. That way the moon will fade out till sunrise and then the sun will rise. I changed my lunar from 10PM-8AM. Checked it this morning at 7AM and it was still dark.
