AI Hydra Settings Thread

i have the 3 hydras over my 150gal. was thinking about the hydra 52 upgrade. i haven't seen one up close though. is the fifty two a little bluer looking instead of the purplish you get from the hydra's or the same look just more led's? and my othe issue is that i can't seem to get my LPS corals happy all my acans are receded as well as my trumpet coral even in the shaded areas and acclimation on 40%. only LPS doing good is my 40 head duncan and blasto. all my SPS are doing great and growing. just frustrating.

my settings are low and without 40% acclimation they'd only be at
i run carbon and gfo and have lights 11" 1/2" off top of water.
cw- 24
v-35
uv- 15 and i peak it for 1 hour to 35% but thats new the other day
db-60
rb-54
g-15
r-10

WOW! I just read an interesting book entitled AI Hydra Settings! A lot of good info here!
I run my Hydras x2 11" from the water level. Raising them helped to spread the light to my likings. I'm still playing with my settings. I felt that the blueness made my greens glow; however, anything blue, purple and dark pink was sort of drowned out. I recently kicked my whites up a little more to brighten things up. I have my RB raised more than my other blues because its a bright whitish blue and it's appealing to me. I have a red Montipora cap, up top that's been in the tank for ~6 weeks. It's faded some to a dark pink. I had a small rainbow Stylo that started to bleach. I've moved him down to mid-tank now and hopefully it will be fine.

My settings:
White 35%
Violet 50%
RB 80%
DB 65%
Gr, Rd 20%
UV 50%
Total intensity 50% I had the total at 70%; however, I'm controlling my lights via my Apex and there's no acclimation mode.
My morning is 2-4pm 10-40% with 2 hour ramp up 4-10pm at 50% and my ramp down is 10pm-2am from 40%-5% with a 2 hour ramp down.

Is there any IPhone aps or techniques that will capture the correct camera lighting?

Well......after some thought, it looks like I will be going with the Hydra26 instead of a hydra for my 28g JBJ Nano. In a few years I will be upgrading to a 100g 48" wide tank and I should be ok with buying an additional Hydra26 since they cover a 24" area each correct???

If the Hydras are being discontinued in less than 1 year of their introduction; I doubt the Hydra 26s will be around in a couple years.

I have two Hydras being delivered to go over my 65g (36x18x24) on wednesday. I felt like if I hung one 52 high enough to cover the width I would have too much light spill in the front. Do you think two Hydra 26s would be better than two standard Hydras? I wonder when they will be available for purchase.

If it was me I think I would stick with what you have that should be a good setup for your tank.

The Hydra 26's should be available to purchase within the next few weeks, according to the AI's Facebook home page.

Thanks,
Randy

Just FYI.......Hydra26's have 6 more LED's, a better PAR rating at the same 24" square coverage area and a smaller footprint so I would say it is an improvement.

In my case, if I go to a 100g tank in a year or two, I may need to buy 2 more Hydra26's instead of 1 for coverage. I can live with that.

if it's the same coverage why would you need two more instead of the one?

upgrade or not

upgrade or not

I have been watching this thread for a while and considering an upgrade. I have been running AI's on my tank for about 7 years now ( they are pre SOL) Started with 2-5 foot rails and 10 lights on my 10 foot tank and downgraded to a 6x2x2 180 gallon tank about 4 years ago and sold one of the rails and 4 lights and kept 6 over the 180 which is probably overkill. I downloaded at the time a beta program to the controller that has 8 set points to ramp up and down like the sun would. They have worked flawlessly and I have had great coral growth (mostly LPS) but keep looking at the new features such as weather, colors the ability to control wireless with my Apex etc and keep getting that want the new thing feeling that won't go away even though what I have works. I have the rail system suspended from the ceiling so would have the ability to adjust height over water with no problem. I would also have to mount the front to back. All that being said, if I do decide to upgrade would you suggest going with the Hydras or the Hydra 52? Are the 52's worth an extra $200 a piece? On a 6x2x2 tank how many would I need? If I went with the 52 could I use 3 instead of 4 or would 3 be enough no matter which one? Thanks for any advice in advance.

guess if I'm going to get the 3rd Hydra should start looking now.

Wonder if the reduce product line due the merger?

I would put 3 52's on the 180.

My AI mounting rack got here today. Unfortunately the rack came with the shorter 3"-4" legs. I talked to Aquacave and AI today and they are sending me the taller ones. My Hydras should be here tomorrow. I am pretty geeked.

It depends on what corals you are keeping in your tank. If its a mixed tank one hydra 52 would be sufficient.
