AI Hydra Settings Thread

If you back in the middle of this thread most of us found that if you run a lot of white the corals don't like it. If it was me I would keep the blues or even bump them up a little and set the white back down to 35 / 40% also lower the UV down to 35% till the coral acclimate and see how the corals like the new settings

Mcgee you are spot on -I can increase almost all the colours over time but as soon as I bump up white to 35-40% I get negative results

Looks like we have a similar tank. I could easily get by with three, right? Looking to upgrade my sol blues to hydra 52 via the kit.
hydras on my 5' 150g tank, dont mind the stand, havent made the skin for it yet,i had lots of issues with the director but the last updates made a big improvment for me anyways

My Hydras and my Director came in today. I am working on getting them setup right now. I am using Honolulu as the weather location. Will it automatically use the lunar cycle there or do I need to turn the lunars on?

OK. If there is overlap between the hours I set for Lunars and the sunrise/sunset of the weather in Honolulu, which one takes priority. For example, if I want the lunars to stay on as soon as the sun goes down, how would I achieve that? Also, what are your intensity settings for lunars?

Thanks for your help Sonic.

I'm a little confused with what you are asking but if you use the weather feature it will automatically correct the sunrise and sunset times each day. Then set the lunar for anytime after the sun goes down and end it before sunrise, otherwise the lights might blast on if lunar ends at 11am and the lights start at 11 am intensity

I'm sorry, it is hard to explain.

What I am trying to avoid is the tank going completely dark at sunset until the lunars are scheduled to come on. Because the sunset time changes, I am not sure what time to set the lunars to come on.

Like today the sunset is 7:10pm. If I have the Lunars set for 7:30pm, would the tank go dark for that 20 minutes?

FWIW, I run 2 Hydras over a 40 breeder, on an AI hanging kit, so theyre mounted front to back (NOT parallel to front glass). 12" above waterline.

W 40%
DB 100%
RB 100%
R 5%
G 5%
V 10%
UV 10%

Some corals did brown out, when I switched from 6x39 T5's, but are slowly coming back.

No it should not go completely dark because you are setting one of the blues to a min of 5%

I wanted to use the AI tank mount, but I wanted to mount them parallel with the length of the tank. Here is what I did...

i have 3 hydras over my tank now, before i had 3 sol super blues. so far, it seems to me like my corals liked the sols better? my digi's did better under my sols, and color on some things like my sunset milli were better aswell. i currently have one of the old sols lighting up a frag rack in my sump; and the sps there look somewhat happier.

having said that, my sps are doing well except my digi's, good color, aswell as my LPS, mainly euphyllia and a few small acan frags here and there, zoas doing very well. at the same time, i have blues up around the 60-70%, but the whites at about 20%, and the UV,green, red at about 10%. colors are coming back very well now so maybe it was just a long acclimation period.

Well......I took the plunge and pre-ordered my Hydra26. Time to work on my shelf above the tank to hang it from. Can't wait.

Awesome tank! , glad to see my clowns aren't the only ones that swim at the top of the tank...lol

OK, I got the lights on over my tank. The look very dim and very blue compare to my Reefradiance Lumentek 240 (aka Reefbreeder Photon 32) I just took off the tank. My settings are UV-15 Blues-40 Green/Red-5 CW-25.

wouldn't they have been going into sunset at this time? see what they look like around noon.

No. I have the time heavily offset to match my viewing schedule. I just checked the director and they were at my max settings. Sunset is about to begin though...Honolulu weather +7 hour offset.
