AI Hydra Settings Thread

That looks good, to be safe lower the uv to match the whites.

Looks great, acclimation ends in two days so if this light is new you could extend it a week.

Or longer. When I add a new coral I go to 60% intensity and ramp up over two months. Probably on the conservative side, but it is working. I have not burned a coral yet and everything continues to grow.

Hey guys...I have a 150H (24"D x 48"L x 31"H) with 3 AI Sol Blues 12-14" above right now for the past 2 years. I've been happy with them and my corals seem to be too, but recently a couple of them started flickering and dimming for some reason. I've always wondered if I needed another unit because my tank is pretty deep. I haven't been paying attention to equipment since I set everything up and didn't know AI had these great new lights out so now I'm wondering if I should consider 3 of these Hydra 52s. They sound more powerful than the Sol Blues. And certainly more controllable. I have my Sols controlled via my Apex but it sounds like the new AI controller is the better way to go. What are your thoughts on this? I'm assuming some of you switched from Sols to the Hydra52s. Is the ramp up as important if I do make the switch? Just curious how much more powerful these are. Thanks!

Thank you for the advice. Can you share your ai file? I would like to check it out.
Ramps times..etc.

The main thing i have noticed is whites too high (over 25-30) hurt the softies. I wanted to error on the side of too little light. If they react negative then you know they need more.

These lights are powerful and when its shallow like mine, you will fry them quick!

the Red / green are pretty high , do you have algae issues ?

I do not think they are high. I do have algae, but it is an over feeding issue. If you have to much nutriants in your system algae will grow. Lowering certain spectrum may impact growth rate but will not stop it from growing if other thing are out of wack.

That is probably a good idea. I have not tested mine in a while. My algae issues poped up when I was on vacation. I was gone for almost two weeks. Part of that time my wife was watching the tank and part of that time we had a pet sitter. They both over fed the tank and I only had a few snails. So after that going on for two weeks the tank was a mess when I was able to get back on it. I am on top of it, it is just taking a little while for it to die out.
