AI Hydra Settings Thread

I would go out on a limb to say Reeftub's numbers are a tad high, some of the corals are growing towards the back of the tank away from the light and the ones growing under the light are tabling, which means they are growing outwards opposed to upwards and once they reach directly under the light, they are getting white. He also has a very low aquascape so can run higher numbers, seems like he has color and growth dialed in just some corals might prefer less intensity.

I kinda thought the same...plus his tank is much bigger than mine. So what numbers would you recommend I try?

I have a 45g tall 36W x 24H x 12D with 2 AI 26s mounted longways so the 4 pucks are spread along the width of the tank.

Anyone have an ORA Red Planet Under Hydras?

Anyone have an ORA Red Planet Under Hydras?

Hi all -

I have an ORA Red Planet that's staying lime green under Hydra 52s. Normally, an ORA Red Planet under low light turns green, and will only turn red if it's getting enough light.

My Hydra 52s are running pretty bright after a multi-month acclimation, and have been at these levels for a couple months. The lights are about 9" AWL and the Red Planet colony is about midway in a 24" high tank, so roughly21" away from the lights.

UV: 30
V: 100
DB: 100
RB: 100
G: 40
DR: 35
CW: 60

I'm wondering if anyone has a red-colored ORA Red Planet under Hydra 52s?

Thanks!

Interesting, I have an Ora Hawkins echinata that turns deep purple if placed midway in my tank and green swirls if placed on the sand bed and I'm running lower numbers than you, I would be glad to test if you send me a frag...lol. :celeb2:

I have one in my frag tank under a 26 that is kind of pinkish red with a green base.

I don't know. It's about coverage with leds. I have two hydra 52 on a 55 gallon. Had one for one year and things were ok. Got two and now I have much better results. Less power of course

My last tank was T5 and my current tank has a Hydra 52. Compared to the T5 tank it seems the Hydra has less or no true actinic?

Thanks, Sonic and Mark. One possibility I just thought of is that although I go 10 hours from sunrise to sunset, my ramps are setup up such that I only get 2 hours of "high noon" sun. Maybe that's not enough? Guess I'll go experiment a bit.

It's just your whites over powering the colors. Lower the whites by half and see a world of difference lol. But if your sps likes it. Don't touch lkl

Hydras 26 on a 150 mixed reef my question is 30% whites to little for the corals

Yeah, I came from 2 360's running at 100% on a 90 gallon...... ran the Hydras at about 60% blues and 35% whites and about fried everything in 3 days.....I toned them down as soon I a started noticing bleaching luckily and everything is as happy as can be now. I posted my aip a few pages back, but basically I'm at 100% on blues, 50% whites, 70% violet, 30% UV, 25-30% on reds and greens. took me about 3 months to get up to these numbers starting with about 65% acclimation.
Why 100 on blues

I'm getting tired of the blue look. Right now im running two hydras with 2 24" blue plus ati's over my 93 cube. Iv been peaking out at about 80% on the blue channels and 50 on the whites. The more i look at the tank the more i like the more "natural" white look. Anyone running the lights with the whites equal to or higher than the blues? The other thing i could do is replace the blue+ with a 10K tube

The white channel is stronger than the 2 blue channels combined. I run my whites at 85 and blues at 100. The whites put out more power at 85 than the blues together at 100. To get approximately equal output the whites would need to be at 71 and both blues at 100.

FYI - I have a spread sheet and did some basic testing to verify the sheet.

The whites are the strongest and have more diodes than any other channel, so take your time bringing them up in power.

My tank is rather white in appearance.
