AI Hydra Settings Thread

I use the rail kit and mine is a good 10 inches off the water... but maybe that's since I have the shorter one...

Honestly if corals are growing fine and doing fine isn't that the point? I would rather have corals than coraline...

As soon as I added AI Hydra HD's, my coralline started and has continued nicely. I'm about 8" above water and settings lower (roughly U:39, V:39, RB:39, B:25, G:7, R:3, CW:9). I love the light from the Hydra HD's, but I'm finding the software is garbage. One of my lights will NEVER respond to the automatic schedule and just stays off. The only way to control it is manually in the buggy app between crashes. My other light works perfectly, although over time it seems that the auto-schedule has a de-acclimate setting, as in over time the settings become lower and lower on the automatic schedule all by themselves. But at least the schedule continues to fire. AI Support has been competely useless, and limited to restart the light, rebuild the schedule, unpair and re-pair, all which have zero effect in the end.

I would never buy another AI Hydra HD, even though the light they produce is awesome and my corals have loved them. But I can not rely on the software and schedules to work correctly at all, so what's the point. I'm not going to sit there and manually change the settings throughout the day every day, which is the only way for them to be reliable.

that's unacceptable. you couldn't ask for them to send u new units?

Is it possible to turn on clouds but no lightning and if so how? I like the cloud feature on my gen 1 hydras.. but don't need lightning... I have the 26hds

Hmmm.. mine doesn't show those options that I see... I'm using the Web on a tablet...

I love the lights.. but the phone app sucks... freezes my phone up

Anyone know how to do clouds without lighting on the app or web?

If you are running the non HD hydras you can use the controller

That's not what I'm saying.. I use the Web based.. I'm asking how to turn on clouds without lightning on the Web based control?

So ive read thru about 30 to 40 pages of this thread and a few others and even called AI to discuss how many or which units to purchase. However all the info im reading is different. I run a 60 gal cube 24 inches all the way around. I was hoping to get by with a single 26 hd. I do keep sps which are mostly mid level or higher in the rock work. My highest sps is about 8 inches below water level. What im trying to get at is will one 26 hd be enough? Or ahould i go with a single 52 hd..or 2 26hd? My hesitation to go with the 52 is that the fixture is elongated and one way or the other i will probably have light spillage from it.

Any tips or help would be appreciated....currently using 24 inch 4 bulb t5...and everything is doing ok...not getting tremendous color or growth but nothing is brown or not growing

Ty...if all my rock work is within say a 20x20 area, will i stilld end up with the shading?

Yes. That is the downside to most led fixtures. And that is why many say to use more than manufacturer recommend. Not because they aren't strong enough but to reduce shadowing.

I just added a second 26hd to my 74 tower.. same footprint at 60 just 30" deep... it really fills in the shadows and my tank hasn't grown in yet

It appears that in their design Of the HD app AI has dummy down some functions.

You no longer have the cloud function.
The weather has been reduced to an ability to set up storms with a probability percentage.

Violet question...After reading this entire thread, violet seems to be the one color that is all over the place. Some say run with UV as it can also darken colors. Some run it with their blues. I have seen a few run it with their whites and finally some run them at about 65% just below blues but higher than whites. Comments?
