AI Hydra Settings Thread

Roughly 2:1 blue to white for a 20k look. The rest of the color settings won't matter for growth much and only for aesthetics. He violet, red, green and uv make up less than 5% of the light power so focus more on your blues and whites

How did you come up with 5%? I found those 4 channels make up around 13% of par while consuming around 10% of the power, if all channels are set at the same level.

Looking for opinion...
There does not seem to be much info on coverage for Hydra.
This is for a 125 gallon standard rimmed aquarium.. So they are narrow and not very deep but very long. Would 3 Hydra TwentySix be enough, One for each two foot section? Or would it need 52?
Looking it looks borderline.
Full blown SPS reef?
What would be recommend?

The 26's should be fine, but you are going to need more than 3 eventually. Shading will become an issues as things grow in. I suspect you will need 5 by the time your tank is mature. Plan your light rack for expansion and you can add as the need arises.

I'm planning on putting a couple 26 HD's on my 90 (4ft long). Got to play around with the height. So if its lower I can expect less of a spread, right?

That could be a issue since the tank is rimmed and has two cross braces.
I also wanted to mount them with with he ext mounting so it has to be done right away.

My original idea is I have a Geisemann Matrix II T-5 in white. It is 4' long and the tank is 6 foot so that would be only 1 ft per-side that needed to be lighted. I was thinking of just adding 1 AI prime to each side. Was worried the prime would not have enough punch.

Hi guys. I'm in the process of setting up my new tank DSA 105 (building stand right now cuz they went out of business) 48x24x21. I decided on 2 52 HDs. My question is which rail will I need to hang them from the ceiling-12 or 6 inch? I would think the 12. My friend made a good point to put them closer together to not lose that spread in the middle of the tank. Thoughts? Thanks!

only way to run an AI fixture without controller is the red button on the unit, you can cycle intensities but you can't control individual color levels, you could put it on a manual timer, but for 100 bucks the AI controller isn't half bad.

Hello I run my T5s from 12pm-6pm and my Hydras near 20k:
Red, Green, White 30
All other Blues and UV 100

I ran MHs before so I use the acclimation period on 30% for a month.
Red, Green, White 9>>>>>30
All other Blues and UV 70>>>>>100

Thanks! How long do you run your Hydras? What do you run your alk at?

I run low nutrients so my Alk sits around 8-8.5dkh. I run my Hydras from 7:30am to 7:30pm. My T5s from 12-5pm.

2 days ago I changed my lighting. I went 0 on my red and green and I'm acclimating my whites to 50%. So after a month my whites will be at 50%. Right now it's at 10% gradually going up.

After doing some research I find that I don't need the green and the red. Algae is one of the reasons. UV, Blues and Whites is what I'll run now.

Really appreciate your help!

What is your ramp up/down schedule for the Hydras?

How many fiztures would be best for a 150, measures 72L x 24 W x 20H...just upgraded from a 110 whixh i had 2 over. Trying to figure out if i need 1 or 2 more lights for this tank.

As with any LED fixture more is better. I run 2 26hd over my 70 cube. I'd say you'd be happier with two more for a total of 4.

Depends how you mount them, parallel or perpendicular and how high over water their mounted IMO.

But I'd say you would probably be looking at 4-6 fixtures total.

I have 3 mounted perpendicular on my 36"x24"x25" tank. I used to only have 2, which worked just fine. But 3 gives me less shadowing.

If your doing sps I would go with more. I have a 60x27x27 and have 6 52s over the tank and works awesome.

you will be happier with more and so will your corals.

I'm
About to set up a pair of 26 HD's to my new 90 gal. 48x20. What settings do you think I should start off with? Mostly have Lps , bubble tip and a derasa clam. Had them pretty happy with a ai hydra in the hood of a bc29 . Settings with that setup were in the 30-40s

One 52 for every two foot section is fine for most people. Honestly. It is rated for 36"x36". One 26 for 2x2, not so much.
