AI Hydra Settings Thread

Hello all I have a AI Prime HD and I have my up and running for about a week. Today when I came home from work my light was not on, the AI was green and not blinking. It has come on and off everyday without a hitch until today.

Any ideas what is going on with this light?

I went to the phone and I was able to turn the light on but to the original settings.

Thanks in advance

6 months in and my tank is really settling in.

Its a 4x2x2, but I only plan to have SPS in the middle 3ft. Interesting you say run them front to back.

It will help reduce shading. Ultimately you will want a third fixture regardless on a 4' display but starting with two will be fine for the first year or two.

@Orcus Varuna I am currently using your high power SPS AB+ schedule and love it. I just picked up a 4 retro T5 setup to add to my existing LED. I seen your SPS AB+ No Peaks with T5HO profile. Just wondering why you don't recommend peaks with T5's and what timer would you have the T5's on? I was thinking about 5 hours durring peak LED period.

Awesome I'm glad your liking it! The t5's are a static light source which kind of defeats the purpose of the peaks in the hydra profile since the corals will be receiving the static t5 lighting for the duration of peak daylight hours. Also, since t5's are quite powerful the t5 profile is approximately a 35% power reduction from the full strength profile. Finally, I personally run my t5's for 8 hrs a day or on at noon and off at 8. Reason is I like to catch the hydras while they are still ramping so they are not running at full power when the t5's kick on.

BRS video spectrum settings

BRS video spectrum settings

Hello Orcus

I have been using your settings for a while and corals have responded very well. But I was checking some of the last videos that Bulk Reef Supplies have put in YouTube on the AI lights and they figured out a setting that resembles the one they figured is best in the ET test. Have you seen it? What is your take on it?
Best regards

Manolo

I just watched the video and realistically my AB+ schedule and the one used by BRS is fairly similar from an overall spectrum and color stand point. I will add a BRS equivalent setting as it's my personal preference not to drive leds near their theoretical maximum values like they do with the violet channels. Evidence shows this can drastically shorten led life span. Other then that it's nice they took the time to do a spectral analysis and match the output. When I originally made these settings I used my eye and a par meter which is not the most accurate lol

I think it is awesome they developed the output using a spectrometer. I visually don't like the blue color, but I can just add some warm colors to my taste, while keeping underlying proportions.

How is the shadowing with these units? Over 3ft, would you go 2x52HD or 3x26hd?

I'd do 3 hd 26 oriented front to back at 8/18/28 inches. The shadowing can definitely be an issue with these units but with 3 you should be golden.

Ultimately I prefer my slightly warmer and less purple setting. The PAR levels brs obtained and the levels I obtained with my settings are virtually identical within 10-20 points and the light wattage at peak power according to the app is pretty close as well.
