Came home today from a Wedding in CLE to find that the little lady turned off the air conditioning before we left..... Hammer was melted, Tri-color is now a unicolor(bleach white) Shrimp and mandarin are gone..... Rest of corals are in shock:( I brought the temp back down pretty quick, that will probably shock the corals again.... Disappointing Day :(

around 95 i think, my temperature gauge on the tank doesn't go that high and I started dumping ice in as soon as I felt the water temp.... lights are out and most corals seem to be ok...??.... The temp is back down around 82-83 and stable. Tri color is bleached by appears to have a slight pulse... I am praying!!!!! All other corals appear to be able to make it through.

That sucks. I'd reccomend airating if you can. Heat reduces the amount of O2 the wter can hold. That will also help cool the tank at a steady rate. If you need RO water give me a shout.

I am not sure how hot the house got yesterday or Sat?? The thermostat was only at 79 today when we got home. I know in the afternoons it gets really hot in the tank room w/o ac on. Thanks Mark! I have an emergency supply of RODI that is alot cooler than the tank.. I did a water change with in ten minutes of walking in the door.... Everything seems to be back to normal with the exception of the tricolor bleaching... and some slight bleaching in the other acros. I took out the large hammer skeleton already. Thanks for the concern!!

we left ours off most of the weekend. I think the only thing that saved me was a larger amount of water in the basement than there was upstairs. It got warm, however It wasn't that bad. 82d I think.

I used to keep a few 20 oz bottles of water frozen so if anything happened and I was there to control it, I could float one in the sump to slowly bring the temps back down.

Thats one of the reasons I love my aquacontroller jr. If the temp reaches 80 the first metal halide shuts off, if it reaches 80.3, the second metal halide shuts off, 81 and off go the actinics. Tons of safe guards like that. New they are $220 with the DC8, money well spent. Sorry to hear about your corals, hopefully most will make a good recovery.

Thats what made me realize it was hot. I got home and none of the lights were on. Being slower than most, I am trying to fix my lights instead of cooling my tank.

From a past experience of almost wiping out my entire tank, I've learned how important it is to bring the temperature back down SLOWLY. A knee jerk reaction of quickly cooling it off is even more detrimental than the high temp.

I saw 92 degrees outside on Saturday, pretty toasty. Hopefully what remains pulls through for you.

I'm debating a chiller now as well, having removing the 180 in the basement and the 200 now being upstairs. I use to be able to fan cool the 180 directly. Not sure some fan cooling on the sump will cut it anymore.

I have been wanting to get a controller for a while. It is to be my next big purchase. Now a chiller is also a consideration.... I am sure that with those safeguards this would not have happened. All corals but the acros are looking good. Acros are loosing a little color:( I am leaving my halides off today again. Eric if it was 92 outside on Saturday, it was probably 100+ in my main room:( Ouch. I may have died myself if i was stuck in here.......

I had a hammer colony that did that i left it in my tank in the back and it has almost all grew back around the dead heads you can still see the original dead ones but the new heads are slowly overtaking them.
