The SKU for Southdown play sand is 578-819. This is a universal SKU for 2 different vendors of play sand. The other supplier is NOT Southdown and looks strikingly different. If you read nothing else - read this -

Do Not Order Southdown Playsand w/ this SKU or description and Expect to get Southdown.....The manufacturer will vary and needs to be physically checked by you or the HD guy.

===========

I think I understand that it IS a manufacturer.
It may be able to be purchased at HD.

this means that this sku may not be SD sand? Is that correct?
Can you purchase other places.

=========
If SD sand is not found or available, is any other type of sand good to help "seed" a DSB with live sand?

Anyone know of a source in Central Florida / Orlando? Unfortunately I don't have any way to get to Jacksonville or Ft. Pierce with a truck! I'm interested in around 75 lbs but would buy more if available...

Thanks! :)

I have a cousin driving down to FL from OH. I asked him to check his local HD for caribbean type play sand - haven't heard back yet... Have my fingers crossed.

No luck in Ohio

No luck in Ohio

No caribbean sand in the Ohio HDs that they called. Guess I'll end up shelling out ~$30 for 40# from www.purearagonite.com . Anyone know of a better source in Central Florida other than driving to Marcona's plants?

guytano,
Do you have a number for Old Castle? Is the sand the same as Southdown or Pure Aragonite? I could buy a truckload. I think there is 7-10 pallets on a truckload. I am on the Idaho Washington border.

Regards,
Kevin

The phone number is what I would like so I can call them directly. I'm hoping that if I buy a truckload it will be worth their while to deal with me.

Regards,
Kevin

wow

i finally read this entire thread ... beginning to end.

A wealth of information ... although lots of repetition.

Thanks soooo much for everyone's help

An idea .....

An idea .....

For those looking for SD sand or Old Castle or Yardright sand ...

Go to the websites and use the dealer locator. you should get a reply as to where you can purchase their sand based on your zip code ...

Hope this works as I am trying now.:beer:

Only 3,400 tons per hour?

Only 3,400 tons per hour?

I have read a lot of this thread, but not all of it. Haven't seen this yet... Here is an interesting link regarding the Marcona mining operations. Gives you an idea of the scale of the operation and the other uses this stuff has. I'm sure it's all over the place, we just have to find out where! Check out this link

At 3400 Tons per hour I could get 94 lbs in 1/20 of a second!!!
