All you SPS keepers with vortechs

I just recently added 2 vortech mp40 es to my 75g and would like all current users imput on which mode is best to run them in. this is a very SPS dominant system

I used Reef Crest in the past, but recently I've been using Lagoon mode. Looking at the profiles for each I like that Lagoon mode seems to keep the pumps at a higher RPM for long periods of time. I ran two pumps in sync mode to maximize flow.

I run mine in reefcrest at 100% I do like lagoon mode but it get's the moters to hot and these things cost to much to fry one.

Got best pe results on reefcrest mode

Totally agree, I used to run TSM (with 2x MP10w ES running anti-sync) and PE was okay, but now I'm running Reef Crest and PE improved by at least 50% if not more, especially during night.

Last night when I checked my SPS's, the longest polyps is about 1/2" long, I really should take some photos so you could see.

p.s. I'm running NPBP for over a year - the extra biofilm probably helped the PE as well.

One MP 40 and one MP 20, both on back wall of tank. Both in reef crest mode, the 20 on 100% intensity, the 40 on about 80 % (any higher than that and I get sand pulled up in the undertow and whirlpool of air coming down). I sometimes futz with em and try long pulse and lagoon, but always come back to reefcrest. I can't really see notable difference in the corals when I try the other modes. While I like the intermittent flow/no flow of Long Pulse mode, I can't handle the ramping-up sound of the pump every 40 seconds, or so. It is not loud and I don't really notice the sound of the Vortechs when they're in other modes, but something about the waiting for the ramping up sound gets under my skin.

Lagoon mode but don't run it on 2 pumps in antisync, or 1 of the pumps will never run much.

Yeah, you need anti-sync for Lagoon mode. In Reef Crest you can go either way but since Lagoon mode keeps them spun up for longer periods of time the other pump would be sitting at idle a lot.

2 mp40w on a 65g...i use the nutrient transport mode (pink) and set to anti-sync...currently running on 65-70%

Nice to see you finally made the switch.

I know you will like them as much as I do on mine. Just need one more"¦Damn hobby"¦.:bounce3::bounce3:

I wanted to use this setting, but as soon as I saw a wave starting to form I had to shut it off.

I have an MP10wES on a 40 breeder. I'm using either reef crest mode or tidal swell mode at 100%...I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm thinking of adding a second MP10 to replace my Ocean's Motion.
