Almost new 6060 Kaput

It's Dr. Goodluck Himself
Hi I bought a 6060 from someone who had purchased it on 8/23 from Premium. He used it maybe a week then had to get out of the hobby. I have receipt, box, etc.

Worked for me for maybe 3 weeks. Tonight, it is on, impeller spins, water does not move.

What can we do here? Can I exchange through PA or do I have to go through you (they are next day shipping to me so that's the basic appeal here).

You have to go through me and it isn't kaput as you put it. It needs a very simple repair. Was it used on a wavemaker? Basically the brake shoes are broken or a part was removed, or improperly reinstalled.

Never opened the thing up, took it and put it in the tank and it worked fine. No wavemaker -- those can't be used with the 6060 as you obviously know. I came home, and no water was moving though it was still plugged in and was powered (body of pump visibly moving still) and looked like the impeller was spinning.

Given it was used less than 25 days, and given the sequence of events I just reported, this sure strikes me as kaput.

If I don't sound happy, I'm not. Even cheap Hagens don't just stop like that (though they do when you turn them off and try to turn them on again.) I expected more.

I'll await your proposed solution. Feel free to email me.

Basic hagens also don't move 1600 gph and the impeller can spin backwards without affecting flow. This is a more complicated system. First, follow the manual, pull out the drive unit and check that the parts are all installed and nothing moved. It is second hand and was shipped at least twice often parts move in shipping that can cause this. It is a very simple problem and you are blowing it way out of proportion. It could be fixed in a few seconds with at most a few dollars of parts, maybe no parts. Basically the brakes are not stopping a backwards rotation, the bush bearing could have come loose or the brakes may have come out. Check everything out, the manual has troubleshooting hints, worst case scenario I will send you the parts to fix it.

Roger you are making assumptions left and right about what I have and have not done. Wavemaker, removing parts, how it was acquired. That is what is ticking me off. On some of these your underlying assumption is that I am irresponsible, haven't done my research, or I don't know what. My first note I was not upset or angry, though frustrated certainly.

I'll look at the manual and see what I can do but my next communication is going to be with Jeremy. I'd rather deal with someone who will treat me with a bit more respect. If he says I need to go through you, I'll shoot an email so this doesn't go further here.

In the meantime, on the chance I am told to go through you, I'd request if that happens that you shift to asking questions rather than making statements that have no basis in fact.

Joel

First, you said you bought it from someone who bought it from premium aquatics- i.e second hand.

I only asked if you used a wavemaker, I never assumed anything.

I asked you to take it apart, I never siad you had. The first owner may have taken it apart.

Do as you wish, I am more than happy to help but I am tired of people starting off with gripes rather than simply saying "it doesn't work, I need some help." When someone starts with how aggravated they are about a very simple problem, I could literally fix this in a minute or less, yes, I tend to be less receptive.

Look, honestly I am sleep deprived and more than a bit burned out on work. My feelings on this are as I have said, I wish people would give me the same respect they feel they are entitled to. I take my work seriously, when someone attacks Tunze they are attacking me and I take my work personally, if I didn't I wouldn't be here at 10pm. I probably crossed the line here and I apologize, it has been more than a bad day and this thread just kind of put the cap on it. Just PM me an address and I will send a replacement drive unit by Priority Mail. I am sorry, I was out of line.

To anyone reading this: we have kissed and made up.

Thanks Roger for agreeing to send the new drive assembly.

Gorilla, I have no idea what you are reading.

As for the what, there was nothing wrong I could see with the assembly when I disassembled, so if the new one fails then there is a bigger issue. Some company warranties would swap the whole thing. That would have been my preference given I found nothing wrong with the parts, suggesting to me a bigger issue with the pump. Roger will send out the assembly replacement, hopefully on Tuesday, and we'll see. Hopefully, that will solve it.

As for the manner, not sure how you can say that and Roger also disavowed that above. Read my first post in this thread, Gorilla, there was no hostility, no anger, no accusations. It was simply, how can we work it out, can I go through PA as that will be faster. Saying a pump has gone kaput is not saying anything negative about the company, the individual, or anything. It was a statement of fact: a basically new pump was not working.

But in the end, you see his last post above and mine after that. In between, I emailed him. We have reached the same wavelength. I apologize for my part in making that trip rocky as well after Roger's first reply. Takes two to tango.
