Always be cautious........

You know I will take care of you Anthony. We can start by plumbing in a new RO/DI. And I already have sps frags with your name on them. I am just glad to see you handled this situation so well and not given up. Keep your head up youhave our support.

This is very unfortunate and I'm sorry for your loss. I've never personally been to rockin reef but idk if you can really blame them. They got screwed as much as you did. Not only did it kill your tank it killed some business for them. They cant catch everything. If you get an RODI don't forget to clean those canisters cause you never know! This hobby definitely has its misfortunes... Again sorry for your loss

The thing that kills me isn't so much the mistake because $hit does happen but, the fact that they refused to own up to their mistake is what makes it far worse than them selling you contaminated jugs. Thanks for sharing man.

I've heard of other people having water issues with that LFS as well, now its known by every one that reads this thread and I hope they do something to make things right.

Well, I never been there or WILL I ever go there......At least they could do is say "well it not all our fault But we will help you with some Corals". Just saying...

I'm not sure of their current owner situation but, it looked like they were really going to great things with that place. I liked it before regardless but some of the improvements they did definitely seemed nice.

Never been a big fan of Rockin Reef. They sell used water from their tanks as 'Live Water' at a premium. HA!

A lot of livestock in less than optimal conditions/locations. Doesn't surprise me with what happened. Very unfortunate.

Imo/ I'll get the jug tested for chemicals & have them responsible for their actions!!! It's just not right, you are a star customer to them, they prob know you by name. Sorry for your lost!!! I wish I've had some of your colonies I would be happy to give you some frags of them back to recover. Good luck for you & your tank, hope you get through this.

Yes, but tainted water jugs. I have tested their RO with a TDS meter and it read 1. So they know what they are doing but just got careless.

The only time I've ever suffered any major algae outbreaks is while using their water. Not saying that was the exact root of the entire problem but it just came at the perfect time that when I started using their water I started having major issues. As I said Anthony, if you don't get an RO unit soon I will have mine setup soon with brand new filters. I think it does 100gpd and I get charged the same for water if I use a gallon or a thousand gallons so by all means man.

Steve you smelled the jugs and witnessed the loss first hand. You also know how often and how much money i spent there. We also both know i gave them a chance to make it right before i ever mentined or posted this. The bad thing is I really hate that this happened because i miss stopping in there and talking with the employees. Had there been any question that i did something wrong or that something else caused this i would have never posted anything. When i addressed this with them they flat out said that the jugs were never cleaned and that they werent selling them anymore. Bottom line is i trusted them to not sell me contaminted containers that would harm my tank. Whats done is done just gong to move forward and start over.

Yes those jugs smelled like pine sol. And I watched you test ammonia and it was high. And we do not even know what other chemicals could have been in there.
It blows my mind that they would have good water and overlook the jugs.
This happened almost a month ago and we both know how other people would have reacted. It is because of your friendships that you did not trash the place earlier.

Not trying to be an *** but you just can't trust stores with things you put into your tank, especially salt water or ro/di. The national forum had a guy who got bad salt water from his lfs and pretty much ruined his tank like yours.

And rockin' reef in my opinion is very low quality. They had an ammonia test kit there that was dated from 2-3 months after expiration. I shook my head when I saw it on the shelf.

They should do the right thing for the sake of their business and other LFS's. In the day of technology, too many reasons not to step up and do right by a loyal customer. I would think the store's $ given to you would not really hurt the business, especially if the business were noted for stepping up, while they may lose a few bucks in inventory, they might notice a spike in sales, which might actually stimulate their business. Failing to do so could result in a decline in sales, many people whether customer or not, will likely never step foot in that operation, simply by reading this. Perhaps a "moment of truth" for the said business???

+ 1 very bad buisness move :hmm3:

Yup. I have also heard of people having water issues. I'm honestly hesitant to buy anything from them. Maybe a coral or two, but that's about it. After being to places like FAIOS and Creative, they have some serious upgrades to be doing in both store and customer service. Sorry about your tank man. I hope people on here can help you out. I 'd help but I'm at the tons of frags look with my tank at the moment.

I am sure anyone who has been going to rocken reef for more then a year has seen the change there. I didnt like the change and stoped going. I personally know the owner and his right hand guy. "real heavy guy" "cant think of his name right now" I was one of there first customers many years ago. I am sure if the owner new about this he would have done something!!!!!. He hired this new manager and the new manage wanted to turn the store into a marine warehouse or a coral corral. IMO that is what killed that place. There used to be a feel in that store. It was kind of a Jimmy Buffet feel. I hung with the owner and old manager drank beer and talk fish and corals but thats all changed. I dont live down there anymore but I am going down this weekend and I will talk to the owner. Not to get this resolved but to let him know whats going on. As far as selling "Live" water from his display. I cant ever remember any coral in his display not looking very healthy. Now the other tanks yes I have seen some not so great ones. One other thing and I dont know if this has changed but his pricing was 15% to 20% less then anyone else. I used his live water for years and it was great. I never had to dose anything which saved me money in the long run. Mr Harvard I am sure you know who the owner is. Does he know about this or just this new manager?

Didn't I see on Facebook they had a "Grand Re-opening" this past weekend? Did they change management /ownership?
