AMAZING customer service! WOW!

Due to some prior disappointing shipping experiences of our 38g IM Nuvo tank, we decided to give it one more go through MarineDepot by recommendation of the guys at InnovativeMarine. Last Wednesday I placed the same order I had two prior times, crossing my fingers for a slightly better result. Well, earlier today I found the aquarium through another vendor for $60 cheaper. IM rarely goes on sale, so I was a bit disappointed to say the least...

I decided to just call MD and see what they said. To my surprise, the CSR was EXTREMELY friendly and just asked for the website I found the other price on. I showed him, and he quickly explained that while he can't issue a partial refund, that he'd be happy to give me a store credit for the full amount!

All in all, I'm very impressed with MD's customer service and will support them for the foreseeable future.

Hi mgproudfit! Thank you so much for shopping with us. We appreciate you taking the time to share your favorable experience on Reef Central and on our Facebook page where other aquarium hobbyists can read your testimonial. Word-of-mouth is truly the most effective form of advertising, so it really means a lot to us when customers go out of their way to tell people what it's like to shop with us and engage with our customer support staff. We hope you love your new Innovative tank—we've got a 38 ourselves here in the office and we know at least one of our staffers has one at home as well. We have a great relationship with IM and we're very familiar with their product line so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.

What are your plans for the aquarium, if you don't mind us asking?

We have a pair of Oce Clowns in QT right now. 42lbs of live rock, 40lbs live sand, some kinds of goby + shrimp combo, 2ea blue/green chromis, and a lemonpeel angel!

We'd eventually like an anemone for the clowns, but that's a ways off.

Do you guys do anything different to the IM packaging when you send it out to customers? Like I said, this is my 3rd attempt to get one to my front porch in one piece and I really hope it works out. IM highly recommended to go through you guys on the purchase. So far, Im glad I did. :)

Hey Matt. We shot a message downstairs to our warehouse supervisor and he just confirmed that we do reinforce "pretty much all the big tanks."

It's a pretty awesome tank. Plenty of room in back for customization or placing a protein skimmer. We've got a Hydor Slim Skim running in back of the office tank. Here's a pic:

Can you take a few more pics of that tank? Id love to see it!

Thanks again for all the help - hopefully the 3rd time is the charm!

We are happy to hear your tank arrived safe and sound! Please drop here every now and again to share an update with us (or just link us to your build thread, if you do one). We'd love to follow along with the growth of the tank! We'd also be super appreciative if you could write a product review about it on our website once you've got it up and running (maybe we already asked that? brain fart!).

The 38 we have here in the office is in a constant state of flux because we're always testing different lighting and equipment on it. In other words... it's nothing special. lol Anyhoo, we shot a quick cell phone pic for you.

How do you guys have your rear chambers setup? Are you still just using the IM filter media baskets? Anything you'd recommend to do differently?

I will post a review on your site shortly!

Hey Matt! Hope all is well on your side. Thank you for the link. Your tank is coming along swimmingly! :fish2:

Please bear in mind it is our test tank, so we regularly change things around. Anyway, our current back chamber setup from left to right is as follows:

Thanks for the reply! I just ordered some Chemi-Pure from you guys as I've read it's a fantastic filter media. My question is, how/where do I use it?

Thanks for the reply! I just ordered some Chemi-Pure from you guys as I've read it's a fantastic filter media. My question is, how/where do I use it?

You can actually place your Boyd Chemi-Pure inside one of your tank's filter media baskets like we did with the AquaMaxx UltraMaxx AIO All-In-One Filter Media. You might want to remove the phosphate and/or carbon sponge(s) to make room for the filter sock (a nylon media bag is actually included with your Chemi-Pure which makes things easy on you). Boyd, the manufacturer, suggests using one sponge above and one below the Chemi-Pure bag. They also recommend supplementing your filtration system with a protein skimmer but, hey, one step at a time. Although the AquaMaxx media we're running is a different brand, the product itself is pretty similar... so you may find the latter half of this video helpful.

Is there any controller I can purchase that will work very well with my JBJ Unibody LED? Have they ever released their Wifi version? I like the manual adjustment but the old mechanical-outlet-timer has already proven to be cumbersome. Ive heard the RKL has a firmware issue causing the JBJ to flicker when it's hooked up. Is there anyway I can retrofit the Aqua Illuminations controller to work with the JBJ? Thoughts?

As always, Thanks!

We apologize for the delayed response. We may have actually already spoken to you via telephone about this. Our best advice is to contact AI directly to be certain since we do not carry their products. You can connect the Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper Lighting Controller RKM-ALC or the Neptune Systems Apex Variable Speed/Dimming Module (VDM) with the appropriate controller system.

You may want to hit up JBJ directly on their Facebook page to ask for an ETA for the Wi-Fi variation. If we're not mistaken, we demoed a remote controlled light from them some time ago but don't know if anything has come to fruition since that time.

Hydor Koralia Slim-Skim Internal Protein Skimmer

Hydor Koralia Slim-Skim Internal Protein Skimmer

Are you guys running the Slim-Skim or the Nano skimmer?

Hi again, mgproudfit! We're running the larger model, the Slim-Skim. Both models are discounted 10% this week as a part of our Best of 2012 sale.

In the back of the skimmer, there are suction cups. You'll need to remove the back panel that has the suction cups attached and then remove the suction cups. Then, flip the panel around so the side where the suction cups were is now facing inside the skimmer. You may need to trim the "nub" of the suction cups off in order to slide the panel back in, but that's how we got such a nice, snug fit in our tank. That way the skimmer will fit all the way down inside the back chamber.

Don't push the collection cup all the way down into the skimmer or it might be hard to remove. You will still be able to adjust the height of the cup to get your desired skim production.

You put the venturi hose back into the collection cup to help reduce noise.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Awesome, thanks! My wife accidentally threw away half of our last order from you guys (the IM 3-pack filter media). Do you have a recommendation of an alternative to running the IM filter media? Im already running chemi-pure on one side with an IM sponge on top and below the chemi-pure. If we get a skimmer, Id keep the chemi-pure but where would I put the second media basket?

You can actually fit both media racks on the same side in the same chamber"”that's what we do (described in more detail in our 10/04/2012, 07:47 AM post).

Marine Depot,

Does the 38G Nuvo have a clear back or is it black? I am curious b/c I have seen a few of these tanks with clear backs and I am not sure if that was a scrape off the tint mod or requested from the factory when ordered new?
