I have a juvenile a. frenatus (appx. 1.5") he was bright orange with lighter orange fins. I notice that the pigmentation of the skin below the scales is becoming darker but not uniformly in mottled patches. Adults I have seen are usually alot darker I was wondering if it is normal for this species to darken with age.

Also If I want to pair him do I just get a much larger specimin and hope for the best?
He currently lives in an elegance coral that is rapidly getting too big for my tank and I am going to trade it for a bta

Here's what my breeding pair look like:

The big female has turned much darker over the past few months. The little male has remained bright orange.

If you have a single frenatus, it will turn into a female and get darker with age.

If you want a pair, let your current fish get bigger and darker so it's definitely on the path to becoming female. Then introduce a much smaller juvenile. The smaller fish will become male.

Great shot, which of your tanks are they in?
Mine is almost exactly the same size as your male (and colour)

How bigs the female? and do you think they could live happily in my 29 gall setup? the only other fish are a tibicens angel and a watchman. I have 10 snails two are whoppers though and 5 shrimp mixed and a couple of soft corals

They are in my 180-gallon tank. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d say the female is about 4ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚. The maleââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s about 2ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚.

With a tank as small as a 29-gallon, it would be a bit crowded with the Angel and the Watchman. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not sure the clowns would ever feel comfortable enough to pair up in such tight quarters
