An addicted reefer chic's 40B franken tank w/ 2 30g display macro tanks...

MACNA in NYC? Too much fun.

DIY is fine, but for something that plugs into the wall and is over salt water, I'll be happy to let the pros do that! Like I said I don't do electricity in my house, the wife does all that.

Yes...I know...if the rumor is true...I will be over the effin' moon! Macna in my backyard spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E! Setting up a savings jar tonight! "Macna funds...touch this I break your face, kneecaps and your hands!" With a little disclaimer stating that it's protected by a lady reefer and a pitbull. :uzi::bum: If plans fall into place I'm definitely going to Macna '13 in Miami and crash with my little sister. Debating on whether to bring the children and the manchild still. It may be lame to some but it sounds like a reef geek heaven to me.

Yes...you told me that your wife wears the "electrician pants" in the house. I'm still chuckling from the first time you mentioned that. You wear the "fraidy" pants in that marriage, huh? JK! lmao

I really want to go to Miami next year......yep, could be dangerous.

Yes, the wife touches all the wires in the house, not me, I'm a big sissy when it comes to that.

It's not easy keeping a beautiful, independant, smart women happy. I was always told that a strong woman needs a strong man.......:)

So many of my reefer buddies are talking about going...if even half of us make it...it would go down in the record books!

hahahaha...

He definitely is a strong man and it's one of the many reasons I'm so madly in love with him. I don't want to make him seem like a punk...he just is smart enough to know that he can't win with me...so he chooses his battles wisely...reefing is not a battle that he will partake in...he knows better. **as I adjust my lady pimp hat** lmao If I could get him into reefing...he'd be the perfect man.

Btw...do you have a tank thread over here...if not you should to show that bad@$$ tank off!!:fish2:

Yep, I have a thread here, but it doesn't get much love. :(

I update it now and then, it's in the nano section.

Link please! I'll subscribe over here too. I love your tank...I just don't always comment b/c I feel ridiculous repeating how beautiful it is...so I comment once in a while and lurk. Lmao.

So update and link...asap...I'll even said please. lol

 :inlove: More for the NPS wishlist:

Is your cousin on RC? Does he/she have a layout of this d.i.y. magnetic stirrer in the d.i.y. section? Sounds interesting. My only issue having a fridge this small is that there is very little space for one...so when I have time I have to sit down and figure out the best option. I definitely want the foods stirred to maximize their consistency in feeding the tank.

In regards to the aqualifter...it's a very good idea to have a continuous flush system of sorts, however in my experience I've yet to find a check valve that doesn't fail at some point or another. If it failed, I'd be concerned with it creating a vacuum and emptying the contents of the food into the tank at once...which would not be cool.

my cousin isnt on rc but i think hes working on writing up a instructable for it, i would imagine you could make a very small version that would fit in your fridge our even better make a stronger version that would work through the walls of the fridge to spin the stir bar inside and the mechanical part would be in a box the fridge sits on.

also back to the aqua lifter if the check valve failed an you were using a medical dosing pump nothing should happen because of the way the tube is pinched off

also there is already a instructable for a magnetic stirrer but isnt nearly the quality of the one im talking about

Ok...well keep me updated on his progress with it.

Yeah...if it the quality isn't there...I wouldn't put it within 10ft of my reef. Gotta go to home depot later to get drill bits. So this will hopefully be working by this weekend.

Curious...anyone on here knowledgeable in regards to magnetic stirrers?

I've found a few that look promising...found a nice battery operated one so I wouldn't have to drill a larger hole for the power supply but I'm not spending $300+ each. I would need two and they would need to fit my mini fridge.

Something like these...but small as possible...preferably battery operated...

Would really appreciate some input here...I would like to get this feeder running asap.

im suprised that all of my snails in my cuc dont have dusters, my tank has way to many of them i wish i could get rid of them actually. did any of your snails have little brown dots growing on them? whatever the are they have spread in my tank. i dont know how to explain them other that little brown bumps they are kinda smooth looking with no real noticeable features my cuc came from reef cleaners as well and the dots were really only on the nerite snails

I was taught feather dusters were a good sign that your system is healthy...so don't wish those away. lol I have a hermit somewhere that has a paly on it's shell...it grew onto it and then the hermit moved into it. I can't find it...it'll pop up eventually. I don't know what the brown dots could be, sorry. The only other thing on their shells is coralline.

As a former lab rat I would not go cheap on the stirrers. Quantitative lab grade are preferable, as you definely get what you pay for. If you do not have the finances check your local research medical lab for "used equipment" you can probably obtain a serviceable unit comparable with your current equipment. Good luck.

Gotcha. What's your opinion on these:

Keep in mind this is only a 6 can mini fridge 2 stirrers have to fit in...that's my main concern...

Those units might work however I cannot comment on the quality. A typical Corning unit can stir two erlinmeyer flasks which I would guess would be adequate for your system. The base units are 7.5 inches x 7.5. The flasks that the unit could stir would be 125 ml x 2. It then depends on your inner frig surface area.

I may just be stuck with them as an only option b/c I don't believe 2 of the other's that you mention will fit. Think 2 soda cans side by side...that's what I'm working with. Will pull out the tape measure in the morning for exact measurements though.

Adding this to the "to build list"...this thing is freakin' awesome...better/more functional than a lava lamp. I would totally mount this on the wall above my reef...green is beautiful...why not show it off?

It would actually make cute dosing containers for cal/alk/mg as well...

Still looking into magnetic stirrers...so far...looks like these are my only option due to space constraints...

yeah i thought they were a good thing to have at first but i think the bother some of my corals when they start growing close to them. ill try and get a good pic of the brown dots
