An unforseen fork in the road

Brett, one of the more reliable sex indicators that I am aware of seems to be an elongated, clear first or second ray of the dorsal spine in mature males.

Males usually try to push the girls in their harem around. Often with Bartletts, some of the more dominate females in the harem will change sex and try to dominate the male, or the other females...

Your tank is big enough, you may not be having these issues...?

But I have read so many stories of Bartletts causing so much havoc with all this sex change dominance BS... I really wanted a trio, but I think my tank is way too small from what I have read about the Barletts...

Hey, I told you I'd get back to you... :)

Anyone else care to help a fellow reefer out so I can get back to Todd and sound like I know what I'm talking about :D

First of all Brett, incredible set-up!

From mid this morning until now I have read through your thread, and feel like I was right there with you through this incredible roller coaster ride...

Jumping for joy when you got it wet for the first time, almost crying regarding your P. navarchus, and shaking I was so mad at times.

I must say that you have impeccable taste on fish and overall design, and that your dedication to the hobby is truly admirable let alone your ability to write a captivating story thats simple and fun for everyone to follow along.

All around two giant thumbs up from me!!!:thumbsup:

Keep us posted as everything pans out, and we'd love some more pics of those beauty angels whenever you get a chance :D

Tangwich and stunreefer thank you very much, you are both very generous with your compliments.

Todd, in all seriousness, I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow. I know I have 2 large ones with long tails and lot's of pink color that seem pretty dominant. Then there are 5 slightly smaller versions with the same bright color that seem to go along with what the two bigger ones want. These 7 stay somewhat together. Then, I have 2 much smaller ones, with very little pink at all that keep to themselves. They are allowed to eat, but definitely haven't been given the secret handshake to get into the clubhouse yet

Sorry to hear about your Regal Angel. I have one with three Tangs :) I will keep eye out for a Regal Angel for you. What size are you looking for and what other fishes are you looking for? Regal and a Majestic. How about LPS, SPS? Good luck!

Thanks
Simon

Brett, just lift up a few scales and look under the hood, inny = female, outy = male :lmao:

Thanks everyone for keeping this thread on track again!

Yes, pics of the new light will be the first order of business.

If for no other reason then my number of corals has been greatly reduced. There definitely won't be any money shots of super intense colored corals.

Something else that is trange, some of my ORA cultured gorgonians took a hit while the wild collected one did not.

Note to self: do not change out your old T5 bulbs for new when your alk swings are bigger than the one is the stock market.

Ken I tried that once before and it ended with an unexpected wee stream to the face. My own fault though, I should have covered that little outy with a towel. :D

Working thru some technical probs....

Not sure what's up, but my updates did not post this morning even though notifications went out saying this thread had been updated.

Hi Brett,

I got a bunch of EM's last night showing new posts to the thread but nothing is showing.

I also tried to post this morning and nothing happened. Just got a error message through RC or the page time out. Maybe a mod can check this out?

Sure hope there is no problem w/ the thread and the mods can find the lost posts.

Chad

Lets try this one more time....

Ok folks, how about a little good news for a change?

A couple days ago I was contacted by Tangwich with a most generous offer. It seems his current Majestic Angel had begun nipping at some of his zoo's and had been banished to his sump. Reading my thread he took pity on my down-trodden luck of late, and PM'd me that he was interested in finding his fish a new home. I quickly took him up on his offer. Especially since he was willing to drive my way to deliver the little guy. I mean, who wouldn't jump at the chance? A great opportunity to replace a prized fish, coupled with a great opportunity to meet another great reefer.

Since Jesse couldn't stay much past the initial release of the Majestic into the tank I promised lot's of pics of how things went after he left. Although, a few of them aren't 100% in focus, I think they are good enough to get the job done.

Time to check out the new guy. The Clarion was tossing around a bit of dominance, but overall, was relatively accepting.

After the Clarion had his moment in the spotlight, the Yellow Tang demanded his 15 minutes of fame. He seemed way more aggressive than the Clarion was and after a half hour had passed without a break I was beginning to get a bit concerned.

But after about 45 minutes all appeared good and the little guy was able to move about the tank without his chaperones following him around.

And somewhere around the 2 hour mark he found the Nori clip and joined in with the rest of the gang.

And for the road here's a shot of my pride and joy getting bigger with each week the goes by. The guy eats like a pig and is beyond fearless.

OK, the technical glitch seems to be fixed.

So here's one the wife took with me trying to kep a low profile by hiding in the shadows.

In pictures the tank looks like it's coming along nicely. It's only when you get up close that you notice all the bare spots that had previously held corals. Jesse (Tangwich) reminded me we are our own worst critics. Which is so true. Sometime we're so busy obsessing over the small details we fail to appreciate the big picture.

You are both right. It looks very pretty. And I've always love that angel. I doubt I'll ever get one, but I can dream right? I'll enjoy yours and dakotareef's. :)

The Majestic is not all that big, 3" or so. The yellow tang is about the size of a softball. I've had him for about 6 years now.
