An unforseen fork in the road

Glad to have you stop in Will.

I guess I must just be confused then becasue when I emailed you asking how much longer before you refunded my card this is what I got in return. It seemed pretty clear to me:
-----------------
Hi Brett,

Well I have run the fixture for 5 days @ 10 hours a day with no issues. I'm unsure what to do at this point. I have a fixture with scratched reflectors and 3 shipping bills to the tune of over $1000.00. If the fixture was not working I could send it back and get a new one but now im stuck with this unit that is unsaleable in its current condition. I'm not sure what to do...

AO

And just so there is no confusion let me respond to you now.

You have the light now. I have 2 credit card charges on my card.

I have no idea why you are unable to duplicate the problem. I have no idea what happened to the reflectors in transit. If you feel they were damaged by FedEx then I guess it's time for a damage claim.

However, I have returned the light to you as we agreed on. So my end of the deal is done. I now expect you to hold up your end and refund the 2nd charge as we agreed on.

Not sure what more there is to "work out"

Brett

Also, if AO asked that Brett perform maintenance to try to repair the unit, which was done to save AO money returning the unit, which they were obligated to do under warranty, then he is not liable for loose ballasts, even if it was his fault, since the work on the ballasts was performed at AO's direction and for AO's benefit.

I believe my customer service has always been top notch and that will continue to be the case.
thanks,
AO
How long did Putawaywet have to put up with a very expensive light that did not work before you would offer a replacement? How many different things did he have to try before you finally agreed? On premium equipment I would expect premium customer service, but I haven't seen it on this transaction. Why should the customer be responsible for opening the light up and checking/changing stuff? Especially after spending the kind of money he did on this product! Sorry AO, I don't see you winning here.

Will just PM'd me and asked if he or the company had done something to me as I seemed bitter towards them.

Anyone else get a similar PM or am I just the lucky one?

Brett I hope this gets resolved properly, because I hate the fact that you feel the only way you're able to get it resolved is to bring this up in public as a warning.

Nick

We just spoke via email and I have a promise that a bank draft for the full amount will be mailed to me. Will reminded me that a refund on the CC would not be for the correct amount due to the exchange rate difference between now and when the charge was made. I am taking him at his word and have accepted the offer of the bank draft.

I just added up the tally the led up to this point:

Outgoing emails to A.O. = 48
Incoming emails from A.O. = 42

Seems like only yesterday that I was placing my order.... :)

Brett

Glad to see it's almost/has been resolved for you Brett.

As for other comments, other than suggestions, it looks as if AO is resolving the problem and bashing is not necessary. Please consider responses before submitting your reply's so this thread doesn't get shut down, which would be a bigger shame for all of us!

Sweet, nice to see everything's getting resolved. I was reading the threads Maxx posted. They were pretty knarly but they were also 4 years old. I'd hate to re-live my mistakes from 4 years ago. So lets get back to the thread at hand. Speaking of which, where's the PICS!

My knee-jerk response is to suggest a response that would probably get me banned from RC. Lets just say it would involve kerosene and matches.

I trust you and think you have delivered an accurate account of your dealings with AO. Given others accounts of their dealings with AO and the current economic situation I hope AO won't be in business much longer. As far as any monetary compensation its obvious you will have to pull out all the stops and fight for what is fair, which may be more time and expense than that is worth to you.

Good luck Brett these kinds of ordeals are not why we are in the hobby. The majority of reef retailers I've dealt with have been more that reasonable when I've recieved damaged/defective equipment, Premium Aquatics being the first that comes to mind. AO clearly is not on par with others in the business.

Bret,
Oh wow! First Congrats on your new Regal and thanks for the info on AO and Sfiligoi. I would let your CC take care of the issue. If they cannot then I would retun all the products.

Thanks for all the info
Simon

Todd, he's not quite yet eating Nori out of my hand but we're getting close.

But it's the 9 Barttlet's that are the ones stealing the show. Totally amazing to watch them at feeding time.

Unfortunately, the 2nd Regal didn't make it. He had called dibbs on one end of the tank, moving in and out of the same pile of rocks kind of keeping to himself, halfway eating only Cyclopeeze, and then somewhere around day 5, he was just dead. I discovered him literally sticking up out of a slit in the top of the rockwork just like someone had posed him there. Just his head was visible, totally pointed skyward and looking relatively freshly DOA. Eyes totally clear, fins intact. Only mark on him was a red circle about 1/8" in dia just to the rear of his stomach. Only way to describe it was it looked like someone had shot him with an airsoft BB.

I also lost my 2nd Red Velvet wrasse who jumped during the night sometime back the end of August. I think it was my Lubbuck chasing him because he did the very same thing with the first Red Velvet wrasse who turned up doing some crazy death spiral one afternoon.

Otherwise, everyone is getting bigger and fatter.

I'm still dreaming of a Regal and a Majestic in the tank but who knows if that will ever come to fruition.

Brett

I just discovered your thread this morning at approximately 8am and have just finished reading it now. Wow is all I can say. I didn't even know my face was capable of forming so many different facial expressions ranging from deep empathy to complete disgust and anger. You have been the only person that I have ever heard tell the same story that I do when people (ok, girls that I date) ask me if I name my fish and are surprised to know that I don't.

Great thread and can't wait to see updated pictures of your tank. For now, you have a pm.

Heading into my days off, let me go plug the camera battery in.

Unfortunately for me I'm fighting cyano. I've been dosing Vodka hoping that would take care of it but it hasn't. I'm just now coming off 2 days of darkness after adding 2 Pura pads and some Brightwell aquatics phosphate remover.

Last weeks water test that was sent out came back with:

Amnonia (NH3-4) .009
Nitrite (NO2) .002
Nitrate (NO3) 0.5
Phos (PO4) .13
Silica (SiO2-3) 0.6 - High
Potassium (K) 302 - Low
Calcium (Ca) 439
Boron (B) 3.4
Moly (Mo) 0.1
Stron (Sr) 8.8
Mag (Mg) 1213
Iodine (I) .07
Copper (Cu) .02
Alk (meq/L) 3.19

How many of your Bartletts are male, Brett? Any problems with too many of them changing sex?

Ummmm... let me get back to you on that Todd.
