Anderson Family Reef - 1200 Gallon System

geaux xman - You have two achilles tangs? That's awesome! how do they get along? That's a sweet powder blue tang as well! So what fish would you be looking to add to your sweet tank?

hey dc,

The aggression was at max level at the start between the 2 achilles. After 3 days, one looked seriously ill and had refused food for the 3 days. So I separated the 2 with eggcrate for a month. Now they are very well behave with minimal aggression for over 2 months.

I'm considering 4 bangai cardinals. They white dots on them will glow well under the metal halides. Now the tough part is adding a few more fish to get the free shipping from LA. I have a couple smaller tanks that the extra fish can go into.

Heres a quick vid.

incredible build thread.....

this was an awesome tank before,I can only see it being better this time around, exceptional work on the sump, equipment layout, and plumbing......

like many others, after seeing this monster tank,my 360g seems tiny LOL

dca22anderson thank you for the very generous and promising words! Ill be sure to keep my hopes up and some day ill have a beautiful tank and great thread on RC.

That video is awesome! Is that an MP60? Love the movement of the water in the tank and your fish selection is way cool!

Thanks DC. Yeah, just a single mp60 running at about 70%. Saw that you said you'll be adding a few mp60's. Will placement for them be a little tricky with the tank being so long and 3 side viewable?

I am stepping over to the dark-side. Cycling a small 33g and will be buying my 1st coral ever in a couple of weeks.

orangegoby - Your 200 gallon tank is a great size reef! I loved my 210. Thanks for checking it out

redtop03 - Thanks for your kind words...I love this stuff! I like working with acrylic and plan on building a few more things for the system in the near future.

Hoosierfan - Thanks for checking it out! :spin1:

Reeftanks6 - You bet! Can't wait to see your future build.

geaux xman - Placement will be tricky but I was thinking of adding them to the long end of the tank. Still not 100% sure on the right placement for those bad boys yet...I would say your are stepping over to the color side... it adds a whole new dimension to your hobby! You will love it... any idea what you will start with for your first coral? :fish2:

I added some great corals to the tank this past week. My brother Trav drove me out a frag pack all the way from Indiana. He is a stud and a great fish buddy. I will get some pics up soon.

I am also ready to begin the build of the frag/grow out tank that will be connected to the main system. It will also be plummed so I can isolate it if I need to use it as a quarantine tank.

I think I will build it to the following dimensions 60"x30"x13"=101.298 gallons...

This is a really great system, I am glad I recognized the logon from utmas. Sorry the Iwaki did not work out for you, I saw it for sale again on utams, I hope the E.T.S.S. worked out for you though.. Obviously not for this system. :) Really great build and I look forward to seeing the frag tank to come..

Atollsps - Thanks for checking it out! The Iwaki ran my 180 gallon sectional system for a season like a champ! Then I had to mix it up a little...The E.T.S.S. went to my brother and he loves it! Thanks for keeping in touch! Do you have a tank up and running?

A see a few tangs in there! :D

So what's your long term coral plan for that tank? I see a few problematic types of corals that if they get onto your main rock structure they more likely than not will out compete everything. The green star polyps, and those palythoas (the brown and greenish ones at about 20-30 seconds in), also looked like some yellow parazoanthids... another one of those types of corals keep it on it's own rock island, but don't let it get near your main rockwork :D

Kyle Wrigley - thanks Kyle! The other big blue wouldn't leave the new yellow belly alone so he got banished to the sump...I'm getting quite a collection of misbehaven fish in the sump... :spin1:

dotcommer - I have always wanted to run multiple purple tangs in a tank and one of my favorite fish is the sohal tang. Stoked you like them!

sfsuphysics - you are correct! Thanks for the feedback. All of the corals listed will be islands just filling out the sandbed. I should move the GSP away from the main structure soon you are right! :wavehand: long term I will be rolling a mixed reef or at least leaning that way with all the big fish I have enjoying the tank...:fish2:

I won't be able to keep up with your collection of tangs but they do look good together swimming like that. Great job.

AQUA DAVE - Love your build! Thanks for checking out my little set up! This stuff is way too much fun! your feeding tube is too cool!

Newbie Aquarist - I'm finished collecting tangs they are driving me crazy! They keep knocking off the SPS frags I glue to the rock stack! I too love they way they all school together. I can't wait to see your center overflow aquascaped! :D
