Anderson Family Reef - 1200 Gallon System

Newbie Aquarist - Thanks for the encouragement. I hope to make this round even better than last. Your build is coming along nicely! How are those sweet Moorish Idols?

Unfortunately, both of them died within 24 hours. One thing about this hobby I don't like is how everything can be going so well and then all of a sudden just change. They were both eating nori and mysis plus pellets. I just don't get it.

bullitr - How many fish do you have in your reef? How often do you feed? Mine seemed to grow fine with lots of fish and lots of food in the tank...[/QUOTE]

I have 50+ fish feed 6-8 times a day all are in display
Today my colt corals is still stagnant it seems like it never grow an inch in 5 years
Still looks healthy though

But my SPS is growing well.

thefu - You are the man! Let's get it up on camera this weekend!

Newbie Aquarist - I feel your pain...I had the exact same thing happen to my achilles tang...ate perfectly for a week then went downhill fast in the 150 frag tank...sorry to hear that.

MattyO - I purchased the white tail tang at my LFS

bullitr - Sounds like you have the same line up as I did. Do you have it in an area with a lot of flow? As long as your SPS are growing well that's what really matters...

Not much going on in the fish room yet. I added some insulation for the sound barrier and some peg board to hang tools and gear on. I plan to add the two media reactors, a frag/grow out tank, hook up my calcium reactor and a few other things...

I'll post some updated pics as soon as I get back in there and add some of the above...

NICE SETUP!! i plan so setup a tank with same dimensions in a cpl years after my 240 grows out, all sps of course! nice fish selection. Have u thought of getting a bubble king? just curious. Also the 2 golds are your whole souce of flow? hows that working out? any dead spots in flow?

Zoonutt - Thanks for checking it out. Bubble Kings are great. I had the MRC-7 so i went with it. The golds feed the return pump and the closed loop. They are doing well but that is not all the flow that I will have in there. I will add a few MP60's here soon. I opted to kick off the tank and get some action going in there before I had all the gear that I want. So far so good.

Here is a quick update of the tank

I am very impressed with this post as far as the build I am blown away. The time $ effort and I really give your family props because I only have a 135 going and my family says I spend a lot of time with it I can't imagine how much time you have put into this. Anyway great thread and also will be tagging along great videos also

This video is awesome. You should be very proud. I played it for my kids yesterday afternoon. My wife watched it after the olympics last night (I have to get her priorities straightened) and I showed my partner at work this morning.

Great job!

Newbie Aquarist - me too... Ok really like 6 times but still... I love this stuff! Thanks for checking it out!

Reeftanks6 - thanks buddy! I have 4 more tangs in the sump getting ready for deployment and 3 more in my frag tank all of which I hope to add to the display at some point.

danfeig - thanks for the kind words! One of these days I'll take a good video not on my phone and give you a better look! Your tank looks awesome with all those new acro colonies!!!!!

amazing setup, especially like the 2 big water containers round the back, very good idea. Do you have any problems with aggressive tangs when you introduce new ones? I have a 100g tank and a purple, yellow and regal tang. I want to put a new goldrim tang in. do you think that will be ok? How do you introduce them? do you just simply add them in and hope for the best or segregate them in one end for a few days so they get used to each other before letting them out?

Man thats simply crazy i love it! I posted a thread on here for my dream tank, i hope some day to have a tank where i can put a ton of tangs in. But i am still young so my dream tank will not be going into effect for a while!

flakey - You have a great tang line up as well! That goldrim should be a good add at this point. When I add new tangs I put them in the sump for a few weeks. This allows me to make sure the new tang is eating and it gives it the chance to get used to the new tank water. I feel it also allows the other tangs to smell them before they see them. If you have an acclimation box I would use that for a few days allowing the other tangs to see the new addition and determine its not a threat. Good luck...I'm still waiting to add the clown tang with the sohal...:twitch:

Reeftanks6 - I had a 10 gallon glass tank with fake plants and two yellow and blue damsels when I was 8 years old. I used to have my dad drive me to the Huntington Beach harbor to get my saltwater for it. Stay focused on your dream tank and one day we will all be watching you set up your sweet system! Your 90 gallon is way better than what I started with! You are well on your way buddy.

WOW. So thats what a 120x48x30" tank full of fish looks like. I can't imagine the amount of time you have to dedicate to the tank, QT-ing fish, etc.

Watching that video makes me want to go on LA website and order me a fish or two.
